    Good morning / afternoon folks.

We got about 2" of a snow, we had to drive to a neighboring town about an hour away for one of my Wife's tests & we got caught in the snow coming down in the highland. Roads were un-plowed in most areas. Fun drive back. My Wife wanted to stop somewhere & check out some stores, she said "I thought you said this was going to be an adventure?"

I said "Well, we were going over a mountain, we could skid off the road at any time & die in a flaming crash. That's not enough adventure for you??

    Chilly out this morn.....

    Afternoon and morning all.

Sunny and cold here today, not bad if you have to have winter.

Would have thought I would be chasing you on a new thread this morning.

The US east coast all the way down to Florida seems to be getting an extra helping of cold this year. It makes the news up here, especially the roads.
    Morning Ken.

Sorry to hear that. They're protected here too & they have lotteries every year to see who gets to hunt a set amount of them.

Afternoon Paul and Keith. Morning Mike and Tony

    and of course everyone else.

Plow just went by. Swears he hangs out somewhere until i'm finished shoveling.

The fresh air will do me good, back in fifteen.

We have black bears here. Every couple of years they have to shoot one in the suburbs. I live where it is a little bit more rural and they make the town papers every time one is spotted.

Afternoon kado. Oh yeah, nothing like driving on mountain roads covered in snow.

We did have one close call. We were going up a steep hill on the freeway & the car was starting to loose traction, the speed was coming down but we were still going & that's the key, don't stop or gun the accelerator, keep going as steady as possible.

Someone behind us thought we were going to slow, pulls into an unplowed fast lane, tries to shoot past us, looses his traction about a car length past us & starts drifting/sliding into our lane. Came about 1/2 a car length from hitting us. I had to reduce speed even more & we barely got up the hill.

That's the trick, all nice and gentle. Once the wheels start spinning you are lost.

Yepperz, I see it all the time around here in winter, especially on our steep hill. People try to drive up it normally when it's snow covered, once they start spinning they gun it & try to "dig" their way up the hill. Then you can smell the burning rubber as they mess up their tires. That's also not good for the engine, getting high revs like that.

Oh the logic of state DNRs. No bears here at all. This state is mostly flat farmland. Very little woods. Wanted to see black bear populations here so found this: Illinois prepares for black bear re-emergence - tribunedigital-chicagotribune.

    Let's reintroduce a dangerous animal.

Don't get me wrong, we need wildlife, but keep them away from populated areas. Move them.

We have bears here too, but I've never seen one around my area, very thankful of that too. :)
