I try to put # comments in as much as posible to remind me when things aren't as they seem. Like the Sense Hat joystick being backwards because I flipped it 180. And variables I use for trickery like changing text colors to all white etc.

I'll have a look at the video a little latter on. The last info I saw on 10 on Arm on a Pi it was missing a lot of drivers. It was usable, but just barely with a ton of patience.

I did the same thing but nothing bad happened. Maybe not exactly the same though?
I had my +5V and ground plug on the i2c pins and the i2c plug on the +5v and ground pins on the LED Shim.
I was feeding +5V into one of the i2c pins SDA I think? I was expecting the LED Shim to never work again but its fine.
What I did would be equivalent to plugging the LED shim in with the LEDs all pointing down on the Pi side of the GPIO header. Mine was upside down I guess?

What exactly happens Jack? Do you get anything on screen? Power LED on? Status Led? If you blew the poly fuse, that should recover on its own. It heats up and becomes a high impedance. Basically an open circuit. After it cools down again though its supposed to go back to being a short circuit. So, put that Pi away in a cool place for half a day or more and then try it again. They say on the Pi forum to leave it go overnight.

How long ago did it happen? They say on the Pi forum it can take a long time for the poly fuse to recover, if thst waht happened? Double check your Micro SD card is in there. Maybe even redo it with a clean raspbian.
Don't bin it if it still won't boot a day latter. Drop it off here your next trip in town and I'll have a look see.

If you flip it over to the bottom side, the poly fuse is I believe right down near the Micro USB Power jack. Right between PP2 and PP30. I'm pretty sure thats F1. If you measure that with an ohm meter and its an open circuit, thats your problem. If it measures a really low resistance, close to 0 ohms something else happened that likely can't be fixed. If its an open circuit you could carefully short it with an alagator clip or something. Just dont touch anything else on the back side of the board. Or go back to plan A, drop it off here and I'll do it. I have an ohm meter.

Looks like Pimoroni are launching a second line of Breakout boards. Like the breakout garden stuff, just SPI instead of i2c.
If you go to the shop page and look at that new mini display board, you can see it plugged into a socket / holder. https://shop.pimoroni.com/ Like the ones they use for the breakout garden, just bigger with more pins
Go here https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/0...60x80-breakout and part way down the page it says "more news to come".
I was expecting a Bilge Tank video, but it didn't materialize. I like these small boards, minimal number of pins etc. A lot easier to wire up IMHO. The current ones anyway. Looks like the new ones won't just plug on top of the GPIO like the current ones do.
