It's basically a 3B+ with the ethernet and USB hub chip lopped off. Think of it as a Hat format Pi Zero. Full sized HDMI and one full sized USB port. That one USB port should have good throughput, no HUB and no sharing with the Ethernet. I would have liked to see 1 gig of RAM but I get why they went with 512 meg instead. It keeps the cost down. I will be buying one, might be next year for me too, I have other things I want more and only so much I can spend on my next order. I have two A+'s in use here that are doing me just fine.

yeah the 1-gig ram would be what I would like too, its a different size too so a new case would be needed also ,for me anyway,i'm so careless with them ,lol ,if i do put in a Christmas order i just might add it then

In one of the Pi 3A+ threads on the Raspberry PI forum, I saw a mention that the Pi 4 will be all new. They have basically gone as far as possible with the current SOC (System on a Chip). I can't for the life of me find that post now though? So the next new Pi will be really be "new". And it was said that it was already "etched in stone", you'll get what you'll get, when the time comes. I'm actually surprised they said that much. They are so tight lipped about anything "future" planed. And as usual, no hint as to when it might actually be announced and or released.

"I" think the Hat spec will stay the same. And it will have the same 40 pin layout for the GPIO, just maybe more pins added at one end for a new bigger Hat. You'll be able to use what you have now with it, at least I hoping thats how it goes. Arduino does it that way. The basic set of pins are the same layout but bigger better models have extra IO pins added.
I think the big change, the all new part, is a new SOC. New CPU GPU etc. So hopefully, more RAM, which is the most asked for feature upgrade. Plus it's the only way they will get full speed USB, and Full speed Wifi etc. The current bottleneck is everything funnels through one USB port to the SOC. They are releasing zero details as always, and I think the post I saw mentioning the Pi 4 was retracted or deleted? I can't find it in the thread i'm pretty sure it was posted in.

Thats interesting, I checked the downloads the other day when the 3A+ was released thinking new images would be up but they wern't? Will have to sort out which one to use now?
