I'm still not 100% (and likely never will be) with how GitHub etc works. As long as I can get device X to work, I don't really care where it comes from though.

I have a lot of Pimoroni hats and pHats because of there great support and ease of install and examples ...first thing i do is install Pimoron Dashboard ,, "sudo apt-get pimoroni " this then give you the option to just choose from a list of your hat or phat and other non hats gpio devices like led strip and power shim ect ect

I went to the Pimoroni site directly and got the installation instructions from there. The script did not contain any "github" on it. But I am not sure if it re-directs to github.

At one time I used the dash board quit a lot. Lately I've been just running the one line installers. I add the command(s) for that as a remark to the python file I run on that setup. If I ever have to start over its all listed in my python file. I have more Pi's than I do Hats or pHats so I hardly ever swap them around.

Hi alpha, how do you use those .py samples for scroll phat? Basically, how do you make them work?

First have a look see if the installer created an examples folder on your Pi. It may be in a sub folder, look for a Pimoroni or scroll pHat folder. If it did you can run them from there, if not copy the ones you want to try to your Pi with the scrollpHat on it.
There are a couple of different ways to run them. One is to right click and open with, then select the python editor you prefer. I like to use idle. Once its open in the editor, you can run it from there, idle has a RUN option in the top menu bar, F5 does it to I believe. Doing it that way should get you some error messages if something goes wrong.
Another way to do it is from command line, something like sudo python3 /home/pi/that_file.py. You may have to change the path to match where the file is. If you cd to the folder its in, its just sudo python3 that_file.py.

some ,like the unicorn pHAT they have to be run from the command line when your trying them ,that how i had to do them when checking one for my alarm clock mood light , then i used Crontab to run it on bootup .

it will tell you on github if they need root access to run..
    [Using with idle/idle3:
unicornhat needs root access to function. Please make sure you start LXTerminal and run idle or idle3 with the "sudo" command like so:
    sudo idle

I add that info to my python files too, as remarks like so.
    Code:
    # Last edited on Jun 9th 2018 # run sudo crontab -e # add # @reboot python3 /home/pi/THP.py &
I add it to the end of the file for quick reference.

EDIT: I guess I should have used the code tages, "reboot" is going to wonder why he was mentioned in this thread lol.
EDIT Edit: Code tags didn't change things oh well.

Did that come with a diffuser? I added a black ninja diffuser to both my sense hats. It softens the text and makes it look more natural, IMHO anyway.

Nice job by the way, didn't take you long to figure it out.
