The piwiz messes up my keyboard layout. I did a sudo piwiz after doing a dist-upgrade. If I select Canada as my country, I'm stuck with English Canada as my language. That actually sets my keyboard to English French? That's what it shows if I go to Raspberry Pi configuration. I need English US which is not an option if I select Canada as my country. It just means I have to do things twice, new way then old way.
I also got an error when it tied to auto check for updates. Cannot be done while offline, only it was online. WIFI showed as connected?

I like that "Recommended Software" menu option, app, or what ever it is. I added the Mu editor and removed a bunch of stuff. The Mu editor will let me code in python and upload as a hex file to my Micro-Bit. I can now code on my Micro Bit from my Pi lol.

It didn't break my RTC code setup. I disconnected from my WIFI so it had no internet, then left it unpowered for 20 minutes or so. Time was bang on on bootup. =)
The new setup menu was nice, needs a bit of work IMHO, but still a nice feature. It now prompts you to set (change the default) a password. And setup your WIFI, location, keyboard layout. Basically all the localization stuff I do manually. See my above post to see why I think it needs some work. If you do the dist-upgrade etc, run sudo piwiz from the terminal to see the new setup menu.

Just doing the dist upgrade on my x86 Raspbian desktop PC. This thing is really slow doing stuff like this over WIFI. It's using a USB single antenna dongle. This one, USB WiFi (802.11b/g/n) Module with Antenna for Raspberry Pi ID: 1030 - $19.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique fun DIY electronics and kits which works fine on my A+'s. Just really slow on this PC. Raspbian will not see the D-Link DWA-552 that's there, no way no how. Its a really old card so I guess that's to be expected. Windows 10 Won't use it either, it see's it but can't find a driver for it. D-Link dropped support for it years ago. Like most companies, they want you to buy a new card.

Meh, got a bunch of failed to fetch errors at the end. That's happened before when using WIFI to do stuff like this. If I connect an ethernet cable all is fine. I'l try a few things first as that's a pain in the but to hook up where this PC is. I'd have to dig out my switch and some cables and run one across the floor.

Well I temporarily swapped my ethernet with the WIFI dongle on this PC. This Windows PC seems to be fine using the dongle, and the other PC did the dist upgrade with no errors on the ethernet. Looks like I'll be running an ethernet cable to that other PC. I have a nice long spare one I can use, will just have to drill a hole in the floor in the closet behind it.
Anyway, time to run those other commands to finish off the upgrade.

Out on my deck under my gazebo enjoying the nice weather. Portable weather clock says its 22c with 66% humidity and the barometer is 1018mb. Got my laptop all setup and my Google AIY kit fired up beside it on my table. Going to play around with that for a while. My stereo sound mode worked, I hear the speaker test from both speakers. I bought this from Adafruit, Adafruit I2S 3W Class D Amplifier Breakout - MAX98357A ID: 3006 - $5.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique fun DIY electronics and kits I2S 3W Class D Amplifier Breakout - MAX98357A. It solders right on top of the built in audio chip with a male header. Same amplifier as the one on the AIY board.
