We use a magjack that supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), and bring the relevant signals to a new 4-pin header. We will shortly launch a PoE HAT which can generate the 5V necessary to power the Raspberry Pi from the 48V PoE supply.
I'll buy one at some point. A 3B+ would probably make a good, or better anyway, KODI Pi. Especially if you watch online content. I would have rather seen a 3A to be honest.
don't see a better one in the near future ,without making changes that will make it more expensive ,so i'm going to order one today..
The Pi Foundation won't ever give a time to new hardware release date etc. Your likely pretty safe ordering a 3B+. A 3A would just be a 3B with the one USB port and no Ethernet. An A+ with the 3B SOC on it. I have two A+'s with my sense hats attached. A 3A would (or should) be a direct replacement. I would get WIFI and a faster CPU etc. It's still just a rumor of maybe being released.
IMHO, the current road block to "really" new and improved is the SOC they have access to. They have a deal with the current supplier, forget who that is at the moment. It's pretty well maxed out at what it can do. The next big step performance wise, IMHO, would be to get the Ethernet and WIFI off of the shared USB 2 bus. They would then get their actual full rated speed. If I understood what I've read here and there, they have to convince their supplier to make a new SOC for them, and give it to them at almost cost. Something like that. Plus if they go elsewhere, they will just piss them off and sour what deal they have now.
It's the same old price versus performance trade off. People want more but don't want to pay for it, lol. The Pi is supposed to be an inexpensive PC that most can afford. Look at how much the tinker board costs relative to a Pi 3B. The tinker board is I think is around 80 bucks Canadian or so? And a 3B is 50 bucks or so.

That may help those with those itty bitty touch screens. I'll have to fire up my bread board Pi with the Pi 7 inch on it and have a look see. I seem to remember some screen being off screen at the bottom and having to drag them up to click OK. I think it was that screen? Or maybe it was that touch screen I sold you Jack?
Just doing the update upgrade on my bread board rig. I want to see how this affects touch, as in makes it harder or easier.
Took a while, was done over WIFI, hopefully that's a lot faster on a B+. Anyway, small is way to small to ever be able to use my Pi Foundation 7 inch touch screen with my finger, or even the stylus I currently have. It has a broad nubby end for capacitive touch.
I do believe that 5 inch touch screen I sold you Jack, is resistive and can be used with a fine tip stylus. Small may work Ok on that with a stylus. Good luck using a finger though.
I'm not knocking this new feature, just posting my observations. Still no right click touch feature though which is very disappointing.
