I share your opinions ,I just posted it o get my post numbers up.lol

I have a similar one[4 port ] for the zero ,the same size of the zero and I rarely use it .just thought it was something that I might be able to use for something ,the one I have is usable by itself as a 4 port usb hub ,doesn't have to be connected to the zero .

I went in for one just because I have a Pi Zero but hate having to attach a USB hub to it to be able to do anything with it. If I was going to select a Pi for a project, I'd go with a Pi 3 but want this to make the Pi Zero I already have more usable.

This is the one I use with a Zero, already has a Micro USB, one less adapter, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/t...crob-connector
I only ever use it to do my setups with keyboard and mouse. And for file copies to from a USB thumb drive. So far I haven't run into a situation where I need more than the one USB port on my Zero's when I actually put them in use.

I've seen a few of those add on boards. They do make sense, provided the price is right. If the Pi and the add on costs as much as a Pi 3B, why not just buy a 3B? I guess i'm just lucky, I always seem to find a use for a Zero that doesn't need a half dozen adapters attached. Slight exaggeration I know. That's probably the one big complaint with a Zero. All the adapters needed to connect a monitor etc. It is what it is though, a 10 dollar PC. That IMHO, is best suited to headless installs.

@caperjack, a Male USB to Male Micro USB will work in place of that. Like the cable we used for the GPIO Extender thing. I never really got into that turn your Pi Zero into USB dongle thing. I tried it once but messed it up or something. I might actually buy one of those if it was also a case. I'm not sure I want to carry a Pi Zero around in my pocket with no case on it.

I also bought that same hub but with the regular full sized USB jack on the end. I use it with my Pi A+'s. They have one full sized USB port for device hookup. May also come in handy if and when the Pi 3A is released.

I also like the fact that the adapter also adds audio to a Zero which a hub doesn't.
