The pigirl stuff may be a better choice "hardware wise" for your props. I myself have never coded anything like a game from scratch. I'm more of a hardware guy. I know a fair bit of python but that's been a learn as I go deal. No expert by any means. You may be able to find a ROM file for a very similar game that you could load on the Pigirl etc. Wish I could be more help but writing a game from scratch is above my skill level.
Hey alpha, I have all the hardware ready to go, keyboard, green mono CRT, RPi3B+ and all the bits and pieces, I just need guidance with where to start with programming. ideally when the pi boots, you'll be welcomed with a simple text based menu that you can select: terminal, game, game, game, net and audio player. then using keystrokes can select any of the menu selections which then takes you to the proper destination. I'm more of a PC man and have a little experience with visual basic, but am totally new to pi and linux

unfortunately no... "Perhaps the only thing the prop build could use is some sort of user interface"

it's a well know replica in the community, but it is display only. mine will be fully capable.

Ah, Ok, everything is built already, cool. I have zero experience with what your trying to do. Most of what I've done is in Python and built on examples already out there. But have a look at this, Welcome to wxPython! | wxPython and Kivy: Cross-platform Python Framework for NUI Development. Might be a steep learning curve though if your new to Linux and Python. What you want to do doesn't sound easy. Not to me anyway.

There are other props if you scroll down the page that may get you a link or idea on what software they are using.

135 Canadian, not counting shipping and GST etc. I don't think that's too bad considering what you get. I'm kinda wanting one actually. Once you add in a Pi 3B+ etc it likely will be close to 200. I have a spare 3B I could use. They did a bildge tank on it. Bilge Tank 126 - The ALL-NEW PICADE! - YouTube
