BSOD error c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.text

I'm trying to resolve the BSOD on my Dell Inspiron 7459 and keep encountering the same issue. When I get to the Automatic Repair screen I go to Advanced Options, Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, Startup Settings, Restart, Startup Settings. When I make my selection from the Startup Settings list ( say for example #4 Safe Mode) it goes to the Preparing/Automatic Repair screen. The screen then goes black and what looks like a CMD box flashes on the screen (I'm assuming this would have been what I selected from the Startup Selection list) and it goes back to the black screen with the Dell logo that says Diagnosing your PC and from there back to the Automatic Repair screen. I continue to get the same results no matter what selection I make from the Startup Selection list. Any suggestions as to how I can prevent this so I can utilize the options from the Startup Selection list? Thanks.

I downloaded the program using my Dell laptop and put it on the desktop from there I loaded it onto a flash drive. Went to Automatic Repair/Advanced Options/Choose and Option/ Use a Device.

The choices were Onboard NIC IPV4 or IPV6. I tried both with no positive results. I also went F12 Boot Options route with no positive results.

Checking Media Presence
Media Present.....
Start PXE over IPV4
PXE-E18 Remote Boot Cancelled

The last line using IPV6 was PXE-E21 Remote Boot Cancelled

I have the program installed on My Passport. I hit F12 and scroll down to USB1-Windows DVD (WD My Passport 08201007). Hit enter and get the blue box with the Windows logo. It has a box on the center that says Install Now. There is also a Repair Your Computer in the bottom left of the blue box. Which rout do I take? Install Now? or Repair Your Computer?

I clicked on Install Now and it asks which installation do I want? The first is Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings, and applications or Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced) . I would prefer the one that least affects the personal files I have on my PC.

Not sure if you are still waiting for an answer here but if you have not already done so I would select the Upgrade route - this keeps your personal files.

Thanks philc43, Here's what came up when I chose Upgrade.

"The Upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using windows installation media.

If a copy of Windows is already installed on this computer and you want to upgrade, remove the installation media and restart your computer. After windows has started normally, insert the installation media and run Windows setup."

Yes, my mistake, you cannot do the upgrade install except from within a working installation. In your case you can only try the "repair your computer" option from the bottom left unless you want to do a clean install which will remove all your personal files.

Hmmm, that's a bummer.
