Did you actually read the description of the problem I am having? I DON't HAVE A WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM! I tried fixing it and gave up and tried reformatting the HDD. I can't get the installation files to load. Do all I have to work with is the Command prompt. Using that, I reformatted and chkdsk'ed the drive several times and have not found any problems that are detected.
I downloaded the SEA TOOLS for DOS and booted off of that CD I created and the DOS OS that was created does not recognise the drive. With that knowledge, I bought a new SATA drive and tried loading the Win 10 ISO file onto that drive and still am getting the same series of errors that occur when trying to extract the installation files.
This is exactly what I was trying to avoid (replacing individual parts) until I finally found the problem).
What happened when you followed philc43 suggestions with boot rescue?
Did you test the drive?
We can attempt to fix the operating system on the drive using command prompt.
Alternatively you can use the boot rescue and test the drive.
It makes more sense to fix an operating system on a working drive rather than one that has problems.
I know you don't have a W10 operating system that is why I am telling you to use the rescue disk I linked you to. It loads its own operating system called Windows PE. You can then access its menu and programs as I explained earlier. At least give it a try rather than dismissing the advice as worthless.
If you do not have access to another PC you will need the help of a friend to create the boot disk since your laptop is not working.
You have to burn the ISO onto a DVD. See the following tutorial if you need help: Burn Disc Image from ISO or IMG file in Windows 10
OK, I managed to boot from the PE DVD and it took me into what appears to be an NT environment. Problem is there is no diagnostics included to diagnose the system. I am able to look at the device manager and find that many systems don't have drivers loaded so I can't get onto the internet to download programs and the USB port is inactive so I can't bring programs over from my other PC. I have downloaded many Drivers from ASUS but don't know how to get them onto the Laptop to install them.
