Yes, my very first BSOD troubleshooting experience was after a user installed a new CPU. The user didn't know the BIOS needed to be resetted. A lot of 0x124, troubleshooting and 1 minute in the BIOS later the problem was gone.

New CPU is installed, BIOS is reset.

The "mystery" yellow exclamation point / malfunctioning PS2 Mouse and Keyboard under "Show Hidden Devices" are also no longer malfunctioning (I still don't know why they're there, but they are)


Prime95 has also been running for almost 45 minutes and temperatures are looking much better... one core maxing out at 90 degrees at one point, but all cores averaging between 82 and 87

Prime95 has run for over an hour with no issues.

Since I've not gotten any new BSODs, and the fact that the processor passed the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, and temps are considerably cooler, I'm going to discontinue the Prime95 test.

Should I run into any new BSODs, I'll continue this thread. At this point, I can probably deduce that:

1. The Focusrite drivers were old/bad. I've also read up that the particular unit I'm using (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 1st Gen) does not like USB 3.0 and so I'm using it with a USB 2.0 connection
2. The processor was "bad" ... it couldn't handle the heat, as well as the issues found in the second post of this thread.

Finally, I noticed that my original processor was produced in Malaysia and the replacement Intel sent was produced in Vietnam. I do not know if this has any bearing on the quality of the chip, but thought I'd include that -- seeing lower temperatures, for sure.

There were corrected hardware errors after the replacement of the CPU.

Please check the BIOS again for PSU data.
What are the 3.3, 5, and 12 voltages?
What are the CPU voltage and frequency?
