Note down each possible solution you have tried and what the result was.
    For example
    • HDD - chkdsk no errors, everything found was fixed
    • RAM - ran memtest86+, no errors found after xxx passes
    • GPU - ran Furmark, after xxx time no cooling issues or errors
    • etc.

I have Intel shipping me a new i7-7700K processor.

Interestingly enough, the agent I spoke with said that the only official RAM speeds that the processor supports is 2133 MHz / 2400 MHz

    i7-7700K - officially supported RAM speeds, O.C... |Intel Communities

Would you recommend running at these speeds, or at the speed GSkill says it can/should/does run at, 3600 Mhz

'can run at' indicates overclocking, if it goes higher than the supported frequency by the CPU I don't recommend it.

    Thanks, axe0

Isn't it wonderful to be duped into purchasing expensive, "faster" RAM? Faster than even one's processor supports! :)

Many pay attention to such things, pc builders know things that the customer wants but will regret if they're not being convinced that it's not a good idea.

When I picked my parts, I purposely didn't go for overclocking and 'faster' things. I know that it will stress me out since I don't have the knowledge and experience for proper overclocking. It wouldn't have been worth it for me to go through the stress of boosting RAM, CPU and GPU compared to the satisfaction of a stable system I have now with good performance.
It's a learning experience, but its not one I wanted to go through :)

I've reduced my RAM speed to 2400 Mhz ... I'm 100% sure I will not miss the speed difference between that and 3600 Mhz and going for stability and longevity.

I got my replacement CPU today and will be installing this evening or tomorrow morning.

When I have it installed, what's the best way to put it through its paces? I'm thinking:
    1. Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool
    2. Prime95 test for at least 5 minutes
Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU Performance Maintenance Tutorials
    3. ... what next?

    Thank you!

    Normally is the best.

Do't forget the BIOS after installing the CPU.

"Normally" ... like in just installing and using it day to day? Shouldn't I do some performance/error testing with the above tools?
Do you mean, don't forget to reset the BIOS after installing the CPU? Is the easiest way via CMOS battery or re-flashing?

    Thanks, again.
