I don't think I would need so much RAM. Can I modify it without opening the device (i.e., instead via Windows OS)?

Yes, the drivers are old, but I don't know what to do about it. I will now try to phone the provider's free line to see what they think (re this old dongle and WinX)

Have to leave room, turn off computer now to call mobile Internet provider (better cellular connection)

Will check here after, and yes I am pretty sure it is the driver for this device/dongle

RAM modules need to be removed physically.

I was afraid of that. Anyway I checked with the Internet provider and they have discontinued that model Internet Stick modem, 3G Huawei E173. It can input average (high use) 3,500 kb/s with max I see on the readout screen ca. 4,600 kb/s. Now the provider offers a 4G Huawei USB Modem E3372 LTE with subscription offers from 2 to 150 Mb/s. For me the current one at ca. 4 Mb/s is more than fast enough (I don't play video games, or 3D, etc.). BUT, on the Huawei site it indicates the 4G E3372 LTE works with Vista and Win 7/8 .... with no mention of WinX. So that may mean even more problems than I now have (besides costing a LOT more for the subscription and buying TWO of the devices since I share the service with a friend).

But if anyone has info as to E3372 LTE compatibility with WinX I would be very interested. Right now all I have to do is not leave the EliteBook unattended for more than 5 min without putting it in Sleep Mode. And manual stop and then manual start if I forget.

Still it would be wonderful to find a workaround for the InstallAgentBroker issue ....

The InstallAgentUserBroker is connected to the store, I presume it's an issue with the Windows store and the downloads.

I am very sure that is a correct assessment. Though it was may first guess, based solely on logic, those tests and results you have wisely advised me to do seem to confirm that by (not absolute) elimination (Venn logic diagram)

Since at least on the surface level WinX does not allow me to uninstall Store (which I will never use!) .... what kind of reasonably safe and not-destabilizing workaround might there be in Registry or whatever?

(not that this system is exactly "stable" now anyway)

Have found and used this to uninstall Store; checked and it does seem to be gone:
How to Uninstall Windows 10s Built-in Apps (and How to Reinstall Them)

    Must wait to see:

    1. if the removal stops or ameliorates the freezing and/or the InstallAgentUserBroker issue, and

    2. if WinX automatically re-installs Store later!

froze after 10 min: left Firefox on, could interact for 1 sec., then froze; when manually starting was less than 1 sec Blue Screen, then normal start

I only occasionally need Audacity but don't want to uninstall it; any ideas how to only turn it on, have it actively "visable" to OS only on my command?

Well I uninstalled Audacity and left machine on with Firefox open to a website. Froze system again somewhere between 5 and 10 min. Same ERROR (but many times) involving Audacity component. I now installed audacity again. However my "uninstall"of Audacity did NOT remove certain setting and other components. So I will uninstall it again (some settings saved in a Doc file so I can re-set them later) and remove all components, incl. in Registry (have System Restore pre-set to reverse any stupidities I may make)

What I find interesting is that for maybe ONE second the system at least seems functioning before every freeze ....
