Wow this is a little different then I thought I understood.

So if you just boot and don't start Firefox then it will not lock up. If you start Firefox and leave it, if I read correctly before, for say 10 minutes it will frozen. Is this correct?

A lot of water has flowed under bridge so pardon me if I repeat something. Have you gone into Device Manager, found your Network adapter, right click, Power management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to power down adapter".

Does this happen with Chrome (as installed, no extension, just default apps)?

Yes it can happen with Chrome. I have only first now inspected Network Adapters.

    Attachment 158465

The first 3 (HP hs3110 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Device here shown as example) allow me do do as you suggest (uncheck box).

    Attachment 158463

I have not done so yet. Should I to any or all three of them??

This one has three boxes; what should I do?

    Attachment 158464

And Kaspersky, which has built-in "do not mess with me" settings, allows nothing (and I prefer that, though I have to turn off its self-protection when I use System Restore; it automatically reverts to "on" once Restored!)

NOTE: Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth are purposely turned off in Windows Network & Internet Settings

    Awaiting your response,
    Lee

    Hi Lee.

Maybe you could describe your setup. Are you using your wired or wireless adapters or do you have dongle that connects you to cellular internet. Are you connecting through multiple methods at same time.

Yes shut all off. You don't use Magic Packets. These are thing that are used in big organizations.

What driver do you have for the Intel AC7265 ? In particular the date.

I use Mobile Partner which uses a mobile cellular data connection (radio link from mobile cellular tower)

This Huawei Mobile Partner dongle is my ONLY Internet connection; all the others are switched OFF

NOTE: there are often interruptions in the link or reduced reception .... but it is my only available Internet connection here and the problem first started with v1703 AND will occur with Mobile Partner switched off

I have updated ALL the drivers, incl. those from Intel(R) and ALL are as up-to-date as possible (like, yesterday, for ex.)

Will now uncheck all the above boxes (and then create a System Restore for those settings; the previous restore point as a backup of course)

Now there are more Network Adapters; I cannot turn any of them off

    Attachment 158483

Aha ... as I write it is/was 14:52, had left computer unattended, returned to find it in Sleep Mode (set to go into Sleep at 10 min) and easily "woke" problem-free

    that is what should happen

    so far so good

will see what happens (b.t.w., this time when it woke I did not have to turn Mobile Partner back on, which I would normally have to before the above unchecked-boxes changes, so your advice made that clear change)

thanks in advance .... / Lee

came easily out of another, longer sleep [this time user-induced, not automatic as above], but Mobile Partner was disconnected (only had to click "connect"), checked Device Management, power settings unchanged (boxes still unchecked)

    all fine so far

Cool but will wait for you to declare success.

On Intel, I'll bet if you use wireless, when you are somewhere that has it, your experience will be awful. I have the Intel 7260 and it requires a driver from Feb 2014. There are more up to date drivers available, I will getting one with the Fall Creator Update, and I guarantee it will not work.

I found this to be helpful: scans all their drivers in your system, offers updates, repairs, etc.
Download IntelĀ® Driver & Support Assistant

This was what I found yesterday >

and I used that Assistant again today as an experiment >
