    I cannot buy things online (no credit card or PayPal ... and they add ca. 30% import duty on all online purchases), I needed these drives FAST for the Clean Install and what is available in the stores here is extremely limited and expensive (compared to North America).

    I bought the Sandisk 256 GB USB drive for File History storage after the EMTEC 256 GB drive used for that function died because I'd put it on top of an old backup hard drive: the magnets did it. So I rushed to get another with the same capacity because that's what the first salesman had originally told me based on the amount stored in C: (it turns out that they no longer carry the cheap one I'd first bought). This was in necessary preparation for the scheduled appointment for a Clean Install with the official HP expert repairman who wanted to first inspect the troubled EliteBook (it's his job and he thought it was hardware at first).

    Over the past days after the Clean Install I have deleted several extraneous Download and Document folders as well as oodles of unneeded and/or redundant files. So today I bought a Sandisk 64 GB USB drive for the Macrium Reflect and did it, also tested the emergency boot and everything went super >

    So with that now as my primary backup I deleted all the stored File History from the Sandisk 256 GB USB drive and put into it the new improved slimmed-down File History which now turns out to be only >

    If I want to use the now clearly overkill 256 GB USB drive for something else and store File History on a smaller USB drive I have that as a future option but for now will leave all as is. Mainly I am just really happy that all the issues have been resolved and the device works as it should ... which is great

    Well deserved thanks to all here for wonderfully helpful advice

    File History is in D: now before being removed and put away

    @Airider

    Sorry for the late response...

    Really glad to hear you got that Macrium image made successfully. That's your insurance policy, good job!

    Yeh, that went fairly easily, but I should point out to others that Kari's tutorial seemed a bit outdated or not the same as what Macrium provided for this WinX, but the "help" buttons at each step took me to their web page at that step and was quite clear, many things being automatically or at least easily done with their updated software. I should says that Kari's tutorial at least alerted me to stuff, although it sometimes wasn't in the same sequence or always using the same terminology as Macrium. So thinking "what am I missing here?" was actually helpful. I was quite surprised how well the "emergency" boot worked too. Now if I can keep new problems -- I mean increased-feature updated versions -- out of my system I shall continue to be happy (I am obviously not "normal" and have no use for almost of these so-important features). However that doesn't include security patches/updates and so have only postponed their wondrous feature-updates for a year (the max).
