looks like I'm not going to install anything until tomorrow. I'll probably be around about 3-4 pm Pacific time.

There were crash dump failures in the event log and when that happens there is not mini dump file to debug. The last crashes in the Windows error reporting were related to the Intel driver update utility. Please confirm that it has been un-installed.
See if you can contact gigabyte for the confirmed misbehaving driver (there were 7 BSOD)
All of the confirmed BSOD have been related to Gigabyte GDRV.SYS (Gigabyte tools) and Intel DSAtray (driver update utility).

If you have had any bsod please post a new zip.
In addition to Gigabyte support there is a Gigabyte forum. On the forum there seem to others with the same misbehaving driver.
At this time on your PC this driver has misbehaved with windows driver verifier.
It is unknown whether it will bsod without windows driver verifier.
So continue to install software and submit a zip for any new bsod.
not sure if I'm going into the office today or not. If I do, I'll keep installing programs.
still nothing from Gigabyte... I am seeing a pattern of sorts. I went and tried to install Adobe Reader DC. While waiting for the install to finish I opened Chrome to type about my progress. As soon as Chrome started to open the computer froze, mid install and shut down eventually. This behavior has repeated itself numerous times....
Use another browser such as Edge, Firefox, IE, etc.
Once you have all of the other software installed you can try again with Chrome.
Once there are sufficient problems in the logs it may be possible to see what information it collected and possibly troubleshoot.
Turn Windows driver verifer on if it is not already on and see if there are any new bsod.
Make sure the known misbehaving driver is not tested until it is fix via information from Gigabyte.

Which software applications have you been able to install without problems?
Which software applications have been problematic besides Chrome and Adobe.
For Adobe which applications have you been able to download without problems and which Adobe programs have been problematic?
Please provide as much information as possible about the office environment:
Are you on a server?
Are you on a domain?

The office computer is part of a home network
I have not been able to install anything. The only thing I have tried is the Adobe reader software I mentioned earlier.
