When you use the above chkdsk command you will see this:
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.15063]
(c) 2017 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /x /f /r
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
once you type Y you will reboot and then be without the use of the computer.
It may take hours to complete.
We are handicapped not being able to read the event viewer log.
This will be trial and error: open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
powercfg.exe /hibernate off
These will be repeat questions from the prior post:
1) what were you able to do to get dism to complete. Was is luck or did you perform a step?
2) did you use shutdown /r o/ f/ t/ 00 and use any of the windows advanced troubleshooting steps?
restore
reset with save files
etc.
3) which software was used to test the RAM? was memtest used? was memtest86+ version 5.01 used?
4) was the RAM tested with all RAM modules in place at the same time?
5) can you post an image of the result into the thread?
Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
1) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)
2) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

3) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)
Evaluate the performance on your computer in clean boot during typical use.
Are the boots faster or slower?
Are the shutdowns faster or slower?
How has the audio and video performance changed? Is it better, worse, or the same?
Continue using clean boot indefinitely to monitor performance.
1) what were you able to do to get dism to complete. Was is luck or did you perform a step?
luck
2) did you use shutdown /r o/ f/ t/ 00 and use any of the windows advanced troubleshooting steps?
no, don't know what those are..
restore
reset with save files
etc.
I did a system restore 2 days ago but nothing worked. Now I can only restore to basically where we are now...
3) which software was used to test the RAM? was memtest used? was memtest86+ version 5.01 used?
latest version of memtest all i did was change the passes to 8 then ran test.
4) was the RAM tested with all RAM modules in place at the same time?
yes
5) can you post an image of the result into the thread?
no, I didn't take a picture
Each software is different.
Memtest is different from Memtest86+
Please use Memtest86+ to test the RAM /DIMM /Motherboard.
Run testing for 8 or more passes.
The more passes the better.
Sometimes testing displays pass when the RAM is malfunctioning. This is called a false negative.
The testing is important to reduce the incidence of false negatives.
Please run at least 8 passes.
When you run memtest86+ please use version 5.01 using this link: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
Run the hibernation command in the above link and report in the thread the change in performance.
Then place the computer in clean boot and report into the thread the change in performance.
Each of these steps requires a reboot to see the impact and monitor the performance.
For all test results please post images into the thread using 1 or more of the following:
Microsoft snipping tool
Keyboard print screen key the Microsoft paint
Camera or smart phone camera
