    Please confirm:
The testing on your computer with Memtest86
    1) whenever 4 DIMM were used displayed immediate errors (any orientation of the RAM modules)
    2) whenever 2 DIMM were used displayed no errors (any orientation of RAM modules)
    3) whenever 1 DIMM was used displayed no errors (all 4 RAM modules tested)

The testing on your computer with Memtest86+ version 5.01
    1) whenever 4 DIMM were used displayed no errors
    2) whenever 1 DIMM was used displayed no errors (all 4 RAM modules tested)

So the Memtest86 testing algorithm is finding errors whereas the Memtest86+ testing algorithm is not finding any errors.
The Memtest86 only finds errors when all 4 DIMM are used and not when 2 or 1 DIMM are used.
Memtest86 has not be used to test 3 DIMM at the same time.

If you test the RAM in another computer that is able to test all 4 RAM with Memtest86 and find that there are no errors you then have confirmation that you have a motherboard problem.

Then you would replace the motherboard.

So you used the best testing tools we have available.
The computer parts have a cost.
That is the reason and only reason for the testing.
If you had another motherboard to swap you could do that. If there are no longer any Memtest86 errors on the swaped motherboard you then have confirmation.
The best that we can determine now from the results in the thread is that the RAM is ok and the problem is with the motherboard.
If there is a friend, neighbor, or local store that can check the 4 RAM that would enable you get additional rule in or rule out information to make a decision about RAM versus motherboard.

Okay so if the motherboard is the issue I'd like to just order a replacement a move forward.

is it possible to order exactly the same board and just move all the hardware over?

There are members with expertise in our hardware forums on motherboards and it would be best to have them comment on your hardware change.
Dell indicated the replacement refurbished part number is 8FMMC and indicated that they only sell refurbished parts with 90 day warranty.

Hello again, I was asked on a different forum to update my bios completely, after doing so I ran the memtest one more time with all 4 sticks installed.

zero errors found! evidently the errors were caused by the wildly outdated bios :)

    4) The BIOS is also outdated:
    Code:
    BIOS_VERSION: A01

No I knew it was outdated but I hadn't updated it yet, I finally decided to go ahead and update it yesterday. It's version A11 now lol

memtest ran ran after updates were completed and no errors found with all the sticks in place :)

now im just having issues getting windows installed again, it goes through the motions and says the installation is successful and it reboots but then it shows there's two operating systems (even though I selected to format the drive) and it wing boot into either, instead it tries, spins for a while and then just reboots
