I now have a fresh install of windows, have all my data files back and am about half-way through re-installing all my software.

It's all taken so long and I think HP hindered it rather than helping. eg. they never tried a repair. etc.

I still have to check for driver updates, but aim to use the HP utility for that

    Thanks for all the help.

    windows 10 professional version 1607 build 14393.969 64 bit

    Which hardware was changed?
    Same or different model motherboard?
    Same RAM?
Which AV are you planning to install?
Once you have installed all of the HP drivers using the SoftPaq download manager please post a new zip:

This also happened with Windows 8.x but it persisted after I upgraded to Windows 10. It's an older machine with limited support, but I'd like to try and use it if I can. It's a tank of a laptop. 40024 Thanks
