This link may be useful as you can install the Micron software to see its findings and suggested hardware:
Welcome to the Crucial US Online Store | Free Delivery
Then you can shop on other websites for what is of interest.
As BSODHunter suggested go with the SSD for the drive on the computer and if you need additional storage space use the cloud or an external HD.
Another option to move your files is a hard drive enclosure. They are inexpensive and give you the option to move the files at your own pace.

Well the hard drive came in today, I got it installed, threw windows 10 back on and re-downloaded macrium reflect so I could restore the files using the back up I made.

It went for a few hours, got to 74% and then a little box popped up that simply said Restore Failed. The only option was to click okay and when I did it just seemed to keep going, it had a line of red writing that said something like Restore Fail Read denied 13 permission denied 32.

my brother left it going for another hour but it never made it past 74% he forcefully shut it down and when it tried to reboot it just said windows needs to be repaired.

set it to reinstall Windows 10 fresh but I'm a bit miffed here because I wanted to restore everything :/
