Constant BSODs with Ryzen and Windows 10 Creators

After the constant testing of every component, and the elimination of all other possibilities. it came down to the motherboard as the only other point of failure. Thanks to the advice and suggestions on this board, I checked RAM, Processor, Video Card, and due to the random nature of the points of failure, slowly I eliminated all other options. The motherboard became the focus after re-installation of all software, and the slow testing thereof. I updated to the latest BIOS, latest drivers, latest Windows, and still there were issues. So, in the end, it left the motherboard.

I also noticed certain things like Chrome or iTunes crashing randomly which was a clue to reboot within 5-10 seconds or I would get a BSOD. I noticed that if I had on the board a code of 24 or 40, the board would crash randomly after a cold start from being shut down overnight. But that if I let it come to the desktop and then immediately re-booted I would get the A0 code which meant that the board would be stable. This led to more checking, and it appeared that there was some sort of shutdown issue where the board did not cleanly shut down but instead went into some weird hibernation state. The crashing of Chrome and iTunes gave me my clue that the issue was not a video driver, which seemed to be a standard crash issue, but instead a motherboard problem.

The last couple of weeks I tested this theory, and it held up. Thanks to Zbook, and this board, I was slowly able to find my issue and get it fixed.

Please post how you you had made your assessment to make a motherboard change so that it may help others that read the thread.

Keep in mind that others may have MB that are no longer under warranty. So they will need to know how to make a test and a decision.

Just a little update: Since I switched motherboards, the system has been rock steady, even when I was trying to crash it. So thanks it was the Gigabyte motherboard, the ASUS Crosshair VI Hero is solid.

Hi! I just discovered this thread because I had more or less the same problems with my Ryzen 1700X system (which I bought in april). My mainboard is an Asrock X370 Gaming K4 AND I have had the same RAM: 32 GB G.Skill Flare X DDR4 2400 CL15.

I had the same problems with random bluescreens in Chrome when playing videos or in games for months (and every benchmark and memtest did run without problems) until I changed the RAM to 16 GB G.Skill Flare X 3200 (which only runs stable at 2933, but that's what the board only supports) and all the bluescreens were gone.

I even send the RAM into RMA and got a replacement kit (with a differend serial number) and the first day testing it was alright and I could play some games, but the second day: first a crash in Project Cars 2 and then a random bluescreen. Then I changed the RAM back to the 16 GB kit and no problems at all.

So is it really the mainboard? Or can it be a general problem with Ryzen and this 32 GB Flare X kit?

How can two different mainboards, with more or less the same CPU and different variations of the "same" ram can have the same problems???

I have only had one crash since I changed the motherboard to the Asus Crosshair VI Hero board. That was playing Civilization VI. I have played lots of games, my daughter has played lots of games, and so far it is stable. The only issue I have is the K70 RGB keyboard is not recognized, and I have to re-install the software daily to get the RGB to work. Corsair tech support has been of no help at all. I have the latest Windows build and all my drivers and such are up to date. I can only conclude that it was the mainboard.
