Here is the fix I have discovered so far: Allow it to boot, 40 code showing, once it gets to desktop reboot, code 24 showing at lockscreen. Put in password, it goes to code A0, and system is stable. I have chased it down to a motherboard issue with the Gigabyte X370 Gaming k7 board. If they don't issue a BIOS update soon to fix it, I will get an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero board to replace the current board. Thanks to all for the hours of help, it was and is greatly appreciated. I cannot say enough nice things about this board, and my especial thanks to Zbook for being patient with me and my whining about this system. Thank you all.

Got this on the Gigabyte forum, and after I made the change it booted right to A0, and so far so good. I'll see if it was just that simple, it can't be that simple, can it?
it sounds like you are going into hybrid shutdown. Pretty sure I have expressed my hate for it here before, but here is how to shut it off and see if it fixes your problem. right click on the start button, select power options. On the right you will see Additional power settings, click on that. on the left click on choose what the power buttons do. At the top you will see some blue text that says change settings that are currently unavailable, click on that. At the bottom remove the check from the box that says turn on fast startup, and save changes. I have wondered if this is the cause of the soft brick that everyone keeps having on these boards. I wish I knew somebody with a ryzen build that I could test this on or had one myself, but its just a theory. my computer used to do weird things when this was enabled on my skylake build. I am on the fast track for windows insider and for some reason after every update windows re-enables this setting.

You could create a scheduled task that runs the following PowerShell script to re-apply it if an update turns it back on.

    Code:
New-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" -Name "HiberbootEnabled" -Type Dword -Value "0" -Force

It looks like that MIGHT have been the issue. Wow, after all this time. I turned it off and booted this morning right into A0 state.

    NOPE:
    Crash dump directory: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

On Sun 8/27/2017 08:35:20 your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\082717-7968-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x22FDFD)
    Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0xFFFFF8098352B6F8, 0x9, 0x8, 0xFFFFF8098352B6F8)
    Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    file path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_24ddebfb518b5a55\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 384.94
    company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 384.94
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 384.94 , NVIDIA Corporation).
    Google query: NVIDIA Corporation DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The new motherboard works so much better than the Gigabyte. Things are much faster and more responsive. CPU Z benchmark went from 1583 multicore to 3854 multicore! Photoshop opens in 2 seconds compared to 10+ seconds under the old board. Every program opens much faster. It is almost night and day compared to the old system. I have the latest bios installed, and the latest windows.

    That's great.
Please post how you you had made your assessment to make a motherboard change so that it may help others that read the thread.

Keep in mind that others may have MB that are no longer under warranty. So they will need to know how to make a test and a decision.
