New HW Build - BSOD WINDOWS CHECK EXCEPTION

All,

I have built a new PC for my son and keep getting this error. I have replaced the MB and RAM, eliminated all the hardware (graphics card, Wifi). I have updated all the drivers per the manufacturers sites. Still get this error about every 2-20min once logging in. I would appreciate any assistance with this.

All the research I have done says hardware but I have eliminated everything. or tested it...

MSI H110M Grenade - latest bios 1.10
I5-6500 - Tested with intel diagnostics tool and passes
PNY 16Gb ram DDR 2400mhz
4gb graphics card MSI RX480 4gb
windows 10 pro

From what you've posted, the only thing you haven't replaced is the CPU. I would RMA it and see if that fixes the problem.

I think I have everything working now.. After 4 days of working on this

and the significant help of your forum it turned out to be driver issues.:)

I have not had this much trouble with drivers since upgrading from windows 3.11 to windows95!! [age alert]..

So, here is how I fixed my issue and determined that it was not hardware but software. This was a brand new PC build with Windows 10 pro 64bit fresh install.

1.) hardware can be easy to Troubleshoot as you can remove it and swap it out for another mobo or ram.. (major hassle if you don't have extras or an understanding purchaser, like amazon) but there is some software that you can download here to test. If your system stays up long enough. I also pulled out my wifi and RX480 card and used just the mobo, CPU, ram to test if I got BSOD with just this basic hardware.

2.) I noticed in all my issues that going to windows 10 safe mode with networking that I never had a hardware issue where things locked up etc... I think that is a good pointer to possible no hardware issues.

3.) Go to your motherboard provider and download the update utility for your motherboard. (I was able to download these via safe mode, but you can not run and install the drivers in safe mode.) My board was MSI and the msi update utility kept telling me I had the latest bios. However, when I went to the MSI website I saw there was a new one available for my 6th Gen I5 processor!! so, check the website don't just rely on the utility. - still got BSOD though

4.) I found a post on here that recommended a SDI utility from sourceforge. I like sourceforge as they are opensource and I have used a few of their utilities over the years. Again, in safe mode I downloaded - "Snappy Driver Installer". I had already run the Intel Driver Update Utility, it found nothing, but SDI found several Intel drivers, audio, nic and graphics drivers that were out of date. I had to reboot into windows several times to get this utility to finish installing the drivers. After about 4 times I finally got the "Drivers are up to date" message. - but still BSOD

5.) I was still getting the BSOD messages but the system "felt" better. Mouse not as jerky, started up quicker, etc.. I went into the start menu of windows10 and "disabled" everything from auto starting except for windows defender notifications, I did not have a lot as this was a new install. Reboot and still got BSOD

6.) I have a MSI RX480 4gb card. I found another thread on this forum that talked about updating that driver. So I went to the MSI site which sent me to the AMD site and downloaded the latest drivers. {SDI, did not pick up on this!}. Again, after downloading in safe mode and rebooting to run the install, the drivers updated and it asked me to reboot...

Since then, about 2:10pm EST I have had no issue.. I have been able to multitask and have more then one screen open at a time. Programs that would easily BSOD my system in the past I can run at the same time.

I think, in my situation multiple drivers were causing issues. Different utilities, some from the vendors!, were telling me drivers and bios were updated and at there latest versions when they weren't. I hope this helps out some others along the way!!

I'll let my son do some serious gaming over the weekend and we will see if the system still remains solid!
