BSOD (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR & ntoskrnl.exe)

Thanks for coming back so quickly, so it looks like it's pointing towards the CPU :-( (I know that's not a guarantee) but I have eliminated other parts and have been keeping a close eye on Temps which all seem fine. Speccy reports motherboard at 23 for most of the day, graphics around 27 and CPU ranges from late 20's to mid 40's depending on what's running.

I did reset defaults in BIOS to remove overclocking so it seems this is going to cost me around £300 to replace. I have never had to replace a processor before, if I want another i7 do I need to go with same model or can I get a newer spec. I'm not sure what I need to check in terms of compatibility with current motherboard? do all CPU's fit in same housing (probably a numb question)

When you re-seated the CPU did you use fresh thermal paste to make sure there was a good thermal contact for the cooling. I doubt if it's the problem but it is worth checking. Is there any scope for returning the CPU under warranty?

Pretty sure the CPU is not under warranty any longer, would you know a good site to check motherboard compatibility with i7 processors, if I went for the 6700k would that fit the same board?

If you look at the CPU support list for your motherboard it only specifies up to the Core i7-5775C. Please check here. It may support higher specs but I would phone their technical support and check first.

Ok I have gone for the i7 4790 as a direct replacement, hopefully it will go in without any problems. From your experience is there anything I should prep before installation? any sign to look for to ensure the CPU is fitted and seated correctly or would I simply get no boot or BIOS bleeps if it was not housed properly?

How are you getting on with the replacement? Usually the instructions for insertion are clearly explained in the accompanying leaflet.

I was just giving it a few days to be on the safe side before reporting back. Everything seems fine with the new processor, no crashes since install so pretty sure you were right in your assumption.
