vcruntime140.dll is missing. devmgmtservice.exe system error.

Hi. My wife's Acer Aspire E14 Laptop has suddenly developed an error message as per the thread title, and suggests reinstalling the program, however I have no idea what the program was that I should reinstall!!

I have looked online but not found a similar problem relating to the devmgmtservice error.

Any ideas as to what to do, the laptop seems to be working fine.

vcruntime140.dll is the Visual C Runtime library. It should be located in C:\Windows\System32. I would do a search on your computer and see if it is present. If it is you may just need to re-register the library. If you open an elevated command prompt and type regsvr32 /s "C:\Windows\System32\vcruntime140.dll" that should re-register the library. Otherwise you may need to get the file from another computer and then register it.

Thanks for the reply, it does not show up on my wife's laptop so looked for it in my (this) PC, it does not show up here either so I cannot copy it across.

Looks like I will need to download it so will have a try tomorrow. As we are both running the same Win10 and neither of us seem to have the file so it seems odd that her laptop needs the file but mine doesn't.

They are included in the VC++ runtime redistributions. You can download them from here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2977003

Neemobeer; thanks for the help and the link, much appreciated.

    Ztruker; apologies

Just a thought, I posted in a bit of hurry so did not read the heading fully, perhaps, as the last line is a 'specific instruction' it should come at the top of the heading, it might help stop idiots like me from making the same error ??

You are not an idiot. You are a person with a problem looking for help. The General forum is where you'll get the best support I believe. Good luck.
