BSOD and COM Error
Win 10/Firefox 49.01 (it was v49 Friday, I think).
No new additions or changes.
Before I go nuts, I immediately opened Event Viewer after an innocuously obtained BSOD - I had just opened Weather Underground. My computer was stuck and I couldn't shut down using Ctrl + Alt + Delete. It was a slow roll to a BSOD.
The error was System_Service_ Exception.
After Win10 went to the next phase, I was stuck with a black screen and the message to insert disk into boot device and hit any key (I mangled that badly, but you get the point). I put in a repair disc and nothing happened. I hit F2 and checked my boot settings, which were fine. Windows then restarted without any issues.
Event Viewer: At 12.23, my computer noted the unexpected shutdown.
A half hour later - and five hours earlier, as well as yesterday, the log shows many DistributedCOM 10016 errors.
In Viewer, I do not see a cause for the crash.
As far as fixing the COM errors, I couldn't change the registry key because of a slew of permissions errors.
Do I need the CBS log instead? Why isn't the data in Viewer?
Or is it there and I don't know what I'm seeing?
As there are a few other meaningless errors and with others, the timing wasn't close to the incident, my guess is that these issues are not related at all.
How am I doing? (!)
How can I determine the cause and fix this?
Thank you.
