Between the manufacturer screen and Windows loading the BIOS does its job.

Please load the optimal default settings in the BIOS.
I know how to get to BIOS but once i'm in there how do i "Load the optimal default settings in BIOS?" Do i just look for something like restore to defaults?

Ok will go in there and do that, although i'm pretty sure the defaults are alread set. While in there i tried to look for anything that migth be a cause and the only thing that stood out maybe was "Wake on LAN" was set to Disabled. "F12 Boot Menu" also Disabled. Should any of these be enabled?

    I'll reset to defaults first.

I restored settings to defaults and saved and exited. Back here now. Should i know try and shut down computer again, unplug power chord and try and boot up on battery to see if this has helped?

:) Wow! This seems to have helpled (the booting from battery, not plugged in problem anyway). I restored settings to defaults in BIOS and have had the laptop unplugged, just on battery, have shut it down completely, then rebooted twice now and it has worked! No more getting stuck on black screen! Thank you!

Now i haven't used Excel where i've had the main BSODs (the blue screen with sad smiley and message alongs the lines of "We've encountered a problem and need to restart", something like that, i've only watched a few youtube videos today and checked emails, been out all day. I am really hoping this solves most and maybe all my issues, having a stable laptop. I still have the sleep set to 'never' and hard disk options as well like you mentioned yesterday so i'm not sure if i should restore those to normal, default settings as well.

Hmm i guess i'll find out after using Excel, etc... for a while and see if the BSOD stop and i'm able to wake from sleep if i enable sleep again and if i can still continue to boot up after being shutdown just from battery.

Anyway, THANK YOU axe0! You're amazing with your time and effort. I really hope this had helpled the problem long-term and is not just a problem that will return. :)

Forgot to mention, my desktop wallpaper has changed a little though, it was all black with an emblem in the middle, now there are some white diaganol lines to the left and right. Doesn't bother me, just something has changed with that, hoping it's not a symptom of something still wrong. Thanks again bro, you're a champion.

From joy to sadness again. I decided to leave the computer shut down for more than just a few minutes before rebooting again. I had a long phone call with a friend, over half an hr and then tried to boot on battery again. The black screen with arrow came back, unable to boot to windows. Had to hard reboot with power button. I then immediately powered the button again just now and it booted into windows fine? I'm so confused. Obviously something is still wrong but at least it has improved.

Appreciate everything axe0. Hopefully no BSODs and hoping somehow i'm able to boot from battery also. Cheers.
