What could it be then? I get a strong feeling it's the display drivers. Maybe i need to find an older more compatible version. Everything was fine until I put the new apu. Could it be that the apu is defective?

IME it often occurs that there are multiple causes, because many users do not know where to check for drivers or they don't update their drivers & BIOS if any update is available from the right place until they get a problem with it.

Could it be that the apu is defective?
The best method to tell is by using it on another system, you've tried many drivers from what I can tell on the first page, I wanted to try a small different way of installing than I believe you'd done so far.
The next step with GPUs (I know it is an APU, but I'd like to keep the CPU & GPU parts separated to not get confused as I have been confused in the past with APUs) is usually stress testing, but using it in a different system is truly the best method to find out if it is faulty.

I don't have another system to test the apu on :/ maybe I'll just exchange it and see what happens. Is there any updates or methods I should try that you think can help?
