    Arc,
"If you opt for the UEFI mode, it would be better that you run the windows installer as UEFI. To do that, you will need the Boot Menu key. For a HP desktop, you will need to either press F12 during BIOS POST or Esc during BIOS POST and then F9 to access the boot menu. Then there will be a UEFI option to run the windows installer."

I'm not finding UEFI option that I can select in the Boot menu. What is the Boot Menu key? F12 sent me to Network Controller Boot.
If I need to have the USB Install inserted to find this, I have not done it yet. I don't want to disconnect drives / remove ram cards until I'm sure I understand these steps.

Would you point me in the direction I need to go.
    Thanks

You will have to have the USB stick installed to see that option. When you get to the where do you want to install Windows screen, use the advanced options to delete all partitions on the disk until the disk says unallocated. Then press the new option. Accept that the installer will create partitions. The installer will create 4 partitions for you (For a UEFI Install) 3 Partitions for a Legacy install. Then just click next and the installer will do the rest. The Tutorial (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...n-install.html) will tell you anything else you need to know, which isn't a lot.

Arc explained most of that in post #109 (My Norton AV tells me: "dm_log_collector.exe is not safe and has been)

Boot Menu key is different for different motherboard and OEM. For HP desktops, it is either F12 or Esc to boot into BIOS setup and then F9. If F12 does not work, try the other.
As essenbe said, you may just do what the tutorial says; no need to force the installer to run as UEFI. Enable UEFI in BIOS and run the installer. The forcing method just makes it sure to use UEFI. Nothing serious for windows 10.

But .... removing of the mixed up RAM is a must irrespective of what you are doing. It should not be there in the first place.

    Hi All,
I'm up and configuring the computer, installing important software first. It'll take awhile.
Not to worry about mixed RAM Arc ... I hear you. New kit will arrive on Monday 4 Cards x 4GB each.

Only misstep so far is I guess I installed it twice. Didn't slow down and read everything and chose 'Advanced" twice. Gave me a Windows.old <- can I simply delete this?
Disk Management attached. I have a little renaming to do. CD ROM is out of sight below J:/K:

    Stay tuned,
    I'll be back

Great. Good job. The Windows.old is info it saved from a previous install. Anything you need, you can get. You can delete if you want to. This will help https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html It isn't always cooperative though. At least not mine.

    Windows.old,
Thinking maybe you're right, I'm wrong. But I looked at the folders and they all look new ... none of my old programs. Only user: Public. Take a look. NBD either way as I have saved it all from Win7 on a secondary drive.

    Hey Arc! Thanks :)
