No crash yet, but this struck me as a little odd. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for Windows Defender to chew up that much disk usage.

0.5MB/s isn't something I would worry about (but that's me), any scans or something active?

What is it that takes so much from the disk?

That's just it though, Windows Defender was using the most out of everything on the list of processes, I'm not sure why 0.5MB/s equals 93% disk usage. I wasn't running any scans so I presume it was doing an automatic one but even then it's weird that it would go up to 93% (the highest was 97%)

    Diagnostics Test

     System File Check

    Please try following:
    • Open an admin command prompt
    • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
    • When it finished reboot your system
    • Open again an admin command prompt
    • Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at %systemroot%\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Have you ever tried an in-place upgrade of Windows 10? It often solves problems that occurs even after a clean install

I'll give this a bash later though I'm slightly sceptical. If the clean upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 didn't fix this then I'm not sure that this will. Still, it's an option.

The saga continues. It got about 3% through the installation before it decided to recover the previous version of windows. Funnily enough I had the exact same issue when upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I couldn't fix it until I did a clean install of Windows 7 and THEN installed Windows 10.

Do you have multiple languages installed?

Although you probably have enough space on your hard drive, please try to cleanup your hard drive space by running cleanmgr.
    Press Windows key + R
    Type: cleanmgr.exe
    Hit Enter
    Follow the on screen instructions
Ensure that you also cleanup the system files.

I have ENG (US) and ENG (UK) installed. Also yeah I have plenty of free space on my hard drive.
