The long generic test could take a couple of hours, but the short generic certainly not. I just ran SeaTools on my HDD of 5.400 RPM connected to SATA II port and within a few minutes it passed the short generic test, short drive self test and S.M.A.R.T. test.
Ok so what does that mean for me then?
I have no clue what I could've done to my hard drive, it was working perfectly a few days ago, and then this just randomly started happening.
Is it more likely that some corrupted files are just messing with my system and being stubborn, or do hard drives just randomly fail like this?
I was thinking that a clean install would fix this, because I've had driver issues in the past, mainly my graphics drivers. Latest nvidia driver would, cause a bsod while playing a game. And my Intel driver would crash sometimes.
Hard drives regularly fail random, there is most of the time no way to tell why or how or something.
I guess ill take it into a computer repair shop and see what they say, worst case, I'll get a new one through warranty.
I would suggest to use the warranty immediately instead of wasting money onto a repair shop.
Is this repair shop the place where you have warranty from?
No its not, I just looked up on lenovo site, and my warranty just expired.. Dang
Ah well, it normally is easy to replace a hard drive in a laptop on your own :)
Just watch some youtube videos about how to replace a hard drive for your laptop.
