    Frequent BSoD While Gaming DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I primarily use my computer for either gaming or to watch videos. Before upgrading to Windows 10 my computer would be quite stable. After upgrading, approximately one hour of gaming (almost exactly) will cause my computer to either lock up and later produce a BSoD saying a message like DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION being the most common, however, Faulty_Hardware_Corrupted_Page has been seen as well; or my computer will lose sight of all saved wifi connections (The neighbours' wifi still visible though), forcing me to either use the diagnose tool, disable/enable, or restart to see my saved wifi connections again.

Often this wifi error will occur twice and immediately after the second time the computer will lock up and a BSoD will appear, these could be either connected or independent, but it should be noted that to correct this issue, i will tab out of the game, reset the wifi, exit and then reopen it, so the problem could lay in there somewhere. It generally doesn't matter what game i am playing, the lower the requirements of the game typically the longer i can go without crashing and games that require lots of bandwidth like MMOs seem to be the least stable compared to something like assassins creed that only really uses the internet for uplay sync. Normally i am streaming music playing from youtube using google chrome. Chrome is up to date too, and the error occurs regardless if chrome is running or not.

Normally after a crash i am determined to get back to whatever it was i was doing, so i'll boot up the game immediately after restart and the crash will happen within about 2-3 minutes of loading into or being in the game. If instead i say "forget it" and go to watch videos after a crash, having them in full screen will also produce the crash. Upon loading into a game after a second crash, the game's setting are typically reset, such as turning subtitles from on to off, but not changing key bindings such as movement preferences. This reset although i have not tested it objectively, appears to occur if i crash while in a loading screen.

From time to time the monitor will lose sight of the computer as well, based on the blinking lights and audio still properly working, it looks as though the computer itself is functioning properly, it just doesn't want to use the monitor.

I have done a little bit of research on this and many things seem to point to drivers, so i updated my video, audio, motherboard and internet adapter drivers with no success. I also tried a benchmark test to see if by some lucky fluke it was an overheating error and found that the system temperature maxed out on 97 Celsius (The sum of CPU somewhere in the mid 50's and auxiliary making up the rest at 40-something); the video card maxed out at 72 degrees Celsius, and the fan speed maxed out at a whopping 13000rpm. I also tried monitoring it while gaming and found the video card never really goes past 66 degrees Celsius, however it seemed harder to cause the error while not playing in full screen mode. I also removed both panels from either side of the tower and it has not had any effect. On occasion there is a fan, one of those fans that just kind of sit in some arbitrary location in the tower and circulates air, that will become quite loud, as if it is grinding something or stuck in some way, however this happened well before upgrading to Windows 10.

Hmm what else.... I have the dump file saved onto my desktop (kernel) if that can be of any help, though looking at the file it is just a 400 000 kb file of random symbols, so i'm probably looking at it improperly haha.

Because this is an issue that only occurred after updating to Windows 10, I would imagine it isn't a power supply issue, but i'm not exactly an expert with computers.

While typing this up, Wise Care 365, the program that i use for registry cleaning and defragging, notified me that 783.9 MB of junk files were found despite one day passing since i defragged the registry, hard disk and cleaned the computer using every cleaning tool they have. Probably just excess 'whatever' type stuff from the crash.

Lastly, i have about 600Gb of stuff on this drive, so a format would be extremely depressing, however any solution is welcome. :)

Any input or assistance would be greatly appreciated as this issue has been happening for a month or two and i am just short of hacking the thing apart and getting help to troubleshoot every piece of hardware.

If any additional information is needed, i would be happy to provide it for you.

Hello Flowvector and welcme to the forums. You files you uploaded only have 1 dump file. This is what it says

    Code:
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

    BugCheck 133, {1, 1e00, 0, 0}

*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvstor.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvstor.sys
    Probably caused by : nvstor.sys ( nvstor+176f3 )

    Followup: MachineOwner
nvstor is your Nvidia Storage driver. I would try to find an updated driver.

Also, please make sure you are set to create Small Memory Dumps. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

Could you also explain more about what you mean by the 'System Temp' and what program you used to read it. 97C is entirely too hot for any component in a computer.

Are you having the same problem with any game other than Battleborn? Almost all of the errors I see for the last month or so were showing the game as the cause. You may try to go into Uninstall a program and uninstall The Nvidia HDMI, #d Vision and GeFforce drivers. Leave you Chipset, Nvidia Graphics driver and PhysX drivers.

Please uninstall the WiseCare program. Those programs cause more problems than the can ever solve. The Registry does not need to be cleaned or defragged.

For the system temp, to read it i was using Wise Care 365 (Link: http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-care-365.html ), under the system monitor tab, it gives a bunch of options to look at different pieces of hardware. Under 'Mainboard' it says "Temperatures" as a heading, inside that heading it gives three temperatures: 'CPU' which is approximately 49C right now, 'Auxiliary' which is approximately 38C right now and 'System' which is approximately 90C right now. That's all the temperature related info under the 'Mainboard' tab, i can also look at 'Graphic Card' which is sitting at 49C right now.

As for specifically what they mean by "System" i couldn't tell you for sure, but i'd imagine it to be a total of some sort. I'm probably wrong there though :P .

"nvstor", and "storage driver", would just a normal update to video card drivers from the Nvidia Control Panel suffice? Or is it something less general that i'll have to look for?

For the small memory dumps, i just corrected it to minidumps, do you want be to play around a little more, get a few more BSoD's and repost the attachment?

Also, in the hour since i posted this thread, i recieved a BSoD with the message "System service exception wdfilter.sys" if that helps at all. This is the first time seeing it.

Thank you for your hasty reply, by the way. It is much appreciated.

wdfilter is the Microsoft antimalware system filter driver.

You have an Nvidia Chipset, which controls all motherboard resources and is completely seperate from the Nvidia Graphics drivers. The nvstor driver is basically your sata drivers for your hard drive, read it as NVidia STORage. It should be under something like sata drivers from your motherboard web site.

I suspect your 'system Temps' is your Motherboard temps. They are entirely too high. (97C = 206F) You may try to clean all dust out of your case and case fans and maybe add a couple more fans to bring in cooler outside air. Try taking the side of the case off and blowing a house fan directly into the case and see if that helps.

Please uninstall Wise care and run these online virus scans.

    Scan with Kaspersky TDSSKiller:
    Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
    ESET online scanner:
Free Virus Scan | ESET Online Scanner ESET
Free Online Virus Scanner | ESET
    Superantispyware
SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
    Malwarebytes
Malwarebytes | Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free
When installing, uncheck the start trial real time scanning and just use it as an on demand scanner

My apologies for the late reply, busy last two days.

So i ran the four antivirus you posted and they came back with a bunch of cookies, malwarebytes came back with a few PUPs all in a world of warcraft folder. Outside from that everything was clear.

I took a look at the EVGA download center and there was the options for my motherboard "Audio" "BIOS" "Chipset and Network" and "RAID". I wasn't sure on exactly what to click, so i just hit "All" to see what they offered. Everything there goes up to Windows 7 but nothing for Windows 8 or 10. Link: http://www.evga.com/support/download/default.aspx
    Family: nForce 790i Ultra SLI

I'm not sure what to make of this, but it seems like EVGA doesn't offer drivers that can solve this issue....?

You have an older chipset, so I guess EVGA does not offer drivers the OS needs. Have you run all the Windows Updates? If you have had any more BSODs, upload the DM Log again.

    Here are the results

    Code:
    FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED_PAGE (12b)
This bugcheck indicates that a single bit error was found in this page. This is a hardware memory error.
    Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc00002c4, virtual address mapping the corrupted page
    Arg2: 0000000000000499, physical page number
    Arg3: 000000278c231c90, zero
    Arg4: ffffd0002515d000, zero
    Debugging Details:

    Please Run Memtest86+

    information   Information
Please download from this site only http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip
Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you may have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask
    .
Next please right click on the start icon and select Command prompt administrator, give admin permissions and copy/paste this into the window that opens and press enter sfc /scannow . If you decide to type it in, please notice the space between the sfc and the /. We want it to say no integrity violations were found. If it says there where corrupt files that could not be repaired, please reboot and run it again. You may have to run it 3 times with reboots in between each time.

Try those and see what the results are.

Sure, i'll get to that tonight before i go to bed. When you say "boot from your selected media", do you mean shut down the computer and boot as if i am booting from a disk? If that is the case, i'll be using the USB for the program you linked. I am a little unfamiliar with how to mess around with booting and such. The farthest i know how to get right now is to press esc while it is booting to get to the boot menu, after that all the BIOS gets very 'codey' and i don't wanna break anything.

Also, hardware memory error, could that be connected to the nvstor.sys from earlier? or are storage and memory two different things?

Yes, boot from the USB not your hard drive. The test will start automatically. Let it run for 8 passes or until you get an error. If you get an error, you can stop the test.
