    Regular BSOD DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION & KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

    Hi,
I have had some issues with my computer for the best part of two years and it is approximately five years old
now so it might all be down to age. Unfortunately I'm getting on a bit now as well and rudimentary things are
becoming more difficult for me to fix so please treat me as a novice.

It started when my computer would lock up and when I rebooted it would take one to two hours to shutdown. A few
times I needed use of it quite quickly so was left with no alternative but to switch off with the power button.

Then, possibly 18 months or so ago the search indexing of my emails changed. I use Windows Live Mail and if I
typed a word in the search box it would almost immediately return a list of emails containing that word. Now it
only gives results where that word is in the subject or sender's name and I have to use the proper 'Find...'
function from the drop down menu which is incredibly laborious in comparison. I tried a few online suggestions
to fix this but to no avail.

Then my computer really started slowing down in general and especially with web surfing. I fixed the speed issue
(I think) by removing loads of TurboLister database files (eBay listing tool) which had clogged my disk space
and then defragmenting the hdd. However, the web surfing speed issue still existed and it made me think I had a
virus or two or there was a keylogger installed on my computer because every page would have to load in full,
including all the infuriating adverts, before it would allow me to type anything on the page and it definitely
did not used to be as bad as this. The cursor would seem to go off and do other things and sometimes come back
into the text box, sometimes not. I would start typing, a few characters would appear, and then it would think
about something for 10 or 20 seconds and then allow me to type some more - sometimes what I had typed in the
interim was stored in the buffer and would eventually appear in the box, other times I would have to type it all
again. I can click in a box and the cursor will appear and flash but it won't let me type for sometime. The
scroll bar or any other functions generally will not operate until the page has completely loaded. As you can
imagine it's quite infuriating. Anyway, I tried loads of different anti-virus programs as well as my resident
McAfee (BT NetProtect Plus) but this problem still persisted.

Then Windows 10 was on the horizon so I thought I would leave it until then and when I installed that hopefully
things will have cleared up. Indeed a few issues did for a while and it's difficult to know what is what because
there seem to be so many bugs/omissions in the operating system that I don't know whether there are issues with
my computer or it. The email search indexing has never returned to the way it was and the text inputting/web
loading speeds has reverted to being irritating at best, after a brief slightly improved period. However, over
the last few weeks I have been getting he BSOD DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE error messages. My computer will regularly reboot over night and to start with I assumed it was doing Windows updates but I now think it was one or other of these errors.

I don't know whether all these issues are related but they're all causes of concern for me.

If someone could give me some advice I would be extremely grateful.

    Thank you very much,
    Cass

    Hi CassHam,

    Welcome to the 10forums.

Many thanks for your help. However, I'm not having much success with this as I can't locate most of the drivers needed.

The hcwD3bda64.sys driver I believe is for a WinTV system which I haven't used since I first got my pc but can't find an updated version on the website link.

cdrbsdrv.SYS I think is for the Panasonic Camcorder software (HD Writer) which I understand has never been updated.

SASKUTIL64.SYS & SASDIFSV64.SYS are part of Superantispyware and I have updated to the latest version which I thought it did automatically anyway.

    I think I have updated GEARAspiWDM.sys.

mwac.sys was part of Malwarebytes which I had on a trial which had expired so I have uninstalled it.

Using a driverupdate program which I have since uninstalled it told me that I had 20 old drivers which needed updating but wanted a payment to sort this which I was reluctant to do as last time I did something similar about 15 years ago I wrote off a pc. Anyway the drivers it mentioned were (excuse the formatting) :

Using HP assistant and checking their website there have been a couple of updates for my graphics card over the past five years but not much else - very poor.

Intel's auto detect system only goes back to the 6 series whereas my chipset is the 5 series. Would I benefit from updating the processor drivers? If so, how do I find the latest versions?

Many thanks again for your help.

Btw I haven't had a BSOD error since I did the above changes.

PS which file was the information you pasted contained within so I can check whether my changes have in fact worked?

FYI, GEARAspiWDM.sys is a driver from Gear also used by iTunes +
    warning   Warning
Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver from such programs, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

The information is from the dumps which are created when a BSOD occurs.
The only way to find out if the changes have worked is to try reproducing the crash.
