    just ordered a new CPU, cheap 4gb stick of RAM, and a new PSU
    You "scattercash" as we Brits would say. I won't argue with your decision. The stick of Ram is a good idea. Look at it this way, you'll cure it and you'll have the makings of an extra high spec computer when the price of components come down. Certainly a head scratcher. Keep us posted.

    @Torquemada & @axe0

    On Saturday I removed the MSI mobo and reinstalled my original Gigabyte G7.
    reconnected everything and swapped the CPU out for a new one I received on Friday.

    System has been up and running since then. I've run the passmark burnin test probably 25 times with no issues.
    I got brave and started installing the software I need/use on Sunday and have been using it for web browsing/email/youtube ever since then with no issues. I also installed Lightroom6 and have tested a couple photos without any crashes.

    I havent fully converted over but I am hopeful the problem is solved. I'll post back if anything changes or in another week or so just to clarify once i get everything moved over and am using it 100%

    Thanks to both of you for your help and patience

    Keith

    Ah well, you got there in the end. Who'd have thought the CPU ? Seem to be quite rare.
    If you'd just replaced the CPU in an existing PC you would have probably spotted it a lot sooner, having all brand new stuff just compounded the situation.

    Have fun Keith and don't forget to back it up !!!
