    OK so I think it's all good now!|
    I changed the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI using these instructions:
    Solved Attn. SSD owners - Enabling AHCI mode AFTER Windows 10 installation. - Windows 10 Forums

    and no more BSOD!
    Furthermore, my SSD is now performing more quickly!
    Win-Win!

    Many thanks for suggesting it was hard disk related, axe0. That definitely put me on the right path to fixing this!
