Cheers
Will wait to hear from you.
Opening up and messing around, I've broken the CPU fan while removing the CPU cooler - blades are so brittle, probably due to age.
Each time I start the machine now, I get a different error code, and nowhere near the Boot up to Windows. Rarely even get into BIOS.
What I'll do over the coming days is completely disassemble the system, remove all components, and give a good clean and inspection of port and pins etc / the inside is very dirty as you would imagine a system of this age.
I'll remove everything, and blow a hairdryer (on cold) to remove the dust and dirt, and re-assemble. See what happens then.
Really appreciate your help - if it was up to me and I had the cash available (I do, but I'm not currently working) I'd build a brand new top end PC. But as it is, I will see if I can rescue this until funds become available later.
It will take me until next weekend to do all this, as I have other things going on.
Thanks for your help - I'll come back next weekend with an update!
I am so very sorry that we haver not been able to sort it
and even more so now you are in that situation
Often as I am sure you will have seen it is either a drive issue - but you have eliminated this with the new drive, and it still will not boot from the usb
Or it is a device that is connected eg - wireless adapter or other plugged in perhaps keyboard mouse etc that fails
OR on some computers, not yours but usually laptops and all in ones etc it can be built in emmc flash storage
eMMC vs. SSD storage: What's the difference? | Windows Central
Once again - sorry we were not able to fix it.
It just possibly could be have been caused by this
if it was so bad that a overheat situation may have occurred, although in reality I think it is the less likely option.the inside is very dirty as you would imagine a system of this age.

No worries / it's just one of those things. It'll either be a corrupted driver somewhere, or, the motherboard has gone kaput somewhere.
As I say, I'll pull it all apart, clean, and inspect each piece, then put it back together.
It's not the end of the world if it's unrecoverable - I really want to build a new, modern, top end system anyway - this has given me a stunning 12 years of service.
I can recycle some parts for sure, the Coolermaster case, the PSU, the GPU, the optical drives - then attach some some new top end Motherboard and CPU, with SSD's this time.
But, one last try to recusitate this machine, after all of the above!
Lets catch up next week with what I find!
It's an old system without integrated GPU.
The latest BIOS is 2014.
As trial and error steps see if the computer can boot and run each Memtest86+ and Sea Tools.
Memtest86+ | The Open-Source Memory Testing Tool
SeaTools Bootable | Seagate US

If these boot then see if you can run Memtest86+ overnight while sleeping and then find an old Windows 10 MCT / iso (1607, 1703)
