    Thanks. There's a lot in post #10 to get my head around. One quick question: do i have to use windows restore or can i back up to macrium reflect (which i do every couple of days anyway)?

    When running WDV the goal is to create dump files.

    Dump files are then debugged to see if there were misbehaving drivers.

    System restore often loses the dump file.

    So whenever possible run one or more of the commands to turn off the tool:

    verifier /reset

    verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail



    System restore points can be deleted after troubleshooting has completed to free up drive space.

    Macrium backups /restore allows more protection for unexpected problems.
