    - perhaps didn't mean the node you mention in (1) in your post above - it's not clear what is meant in (1) in the quoted text above.
Launching offline Regedit from command prompt worked. I've loaded all my registry backups but nothing worked. I've also seen that the registry looks much more empty than its usual.
I've then tried, as last resource, to reset the OS (keeping my personal files) but I got an error halfway.
I'm beginning to feel like a clean re-installation of the OS is the only way here.

Yep, as you've not made due preparation for things going wrong..

When you do that, once again:
    a. Create a backup of what you have now - a full disk image (boot PC from bootable disk created by disk image program, image file to external disk).
    b. Plan to keep as much personal data off C: as possible so it's not affected by O/S maintenance.
    c. As soon as you can after the clean install create your first full disk image of at least ALL your O/S partitions.
    d. Keep updating your disk image set (e.g. differential images) as you install and configure.
    e. Keep simple notes as you go.

That way, should something go irreversibly wrong you can restore an image and not lose too much.

Note: a clean install means, of course, deleting all partitions of your existing O/S if reusing the disk.

Absolutely. In the large mainframe world we always said "you pack your own parachute"....

If there are important files then consider a custom install:
