    Virus or Update Bug

This past Tuesday I had an Update.
I normally shut down my system.
Last night for the first time I left it going overnight, with cable modem connection to net, but No browser active..

When I bought the screen up this A.M. and tried to access what I call the quick menu (not sure what M$, calls the Start > left click menu (that pops up with desired shortcuts)), the menu did Not come up BUT a string of 5's (e.g. 55555555555555555)
appeared in the left lower corner search box.. Several attempts at the menu gave 5's with no menu. Even a soft reboot yielded 5's with no menu.
I have icons on the desktop, so used one of those icons to access this forum. Then tried the quick menu and worked
    with no 5's appearing.

Anyone see anything like this and any ideas?

I guess you mean the Start Menu.

Never heard of anything like that myself --- stuck key on keyboard?

    Thanks for responding.
    Good thought.
Could of been stuck since I use the Original IBM keyboard.
The fact it cleared after accessing the forum is most interesting.
Initial thought I had was the keyboard buffer was full (but mouse and keyboard buffer should be independent and accessing Start Menu by mouse should Not affect keyboard).
If your correct, bringing up a new APP (browser) most likely cleared it.

That is not signs of a virus, it is signs of broke hardware.
