Surface abruptly shuts down when screen off or sleep

    Hi, I have a Surface Pro 7 W10 Home 22H2 19045.2251

I already made a thread here:
Surface shuts down after screen goes off or sleep

and they advised me to post here the V2 results.
So, here is the zip result of the V2 script.

The computer has had BSOD but did not create dump files.

The free space on C: was only 5 GB.

There were some reports of drive corruptions and and a RAW drive.

The RAM speed was running at speeds higher than the CPU supported speed.

These comments are to get you started in the troubleshooting.
(I've got limited time until 2023)

    4) List all devices that were attached to USB ports during the past 30 days.

    5) The RAM speed recorded was higher than the CPU supported speed.
If possible, in the BIOS, turn off XMP.

    6) Check the status of Micro SD/M2 as it was reported as RAW

    7) Check the status of G: as it was reported as having drive corruption

    Thank you.

    1) Increase the drive free space so that there is > 30 GB
Yes I'm always struggling with this pc for the space... It has only a 128GB SSD and I find it too little...
I put a SD to move things but I don't trust this thing so much...
I'll try to gain more space...

    2) I attach the zip of the script

    4) List all devices that were attached to USB ports during the past 30 days.
I daily use a USB-C HUB with mouse/keyboard/Ethernet and HDMI when plugged in. Always used with no problems at all.
I recently also connected some USB-SSD drives (both Sata and M2) both on USB-C and USB-A
One of them was unusable, I suspect the G:...

    5) The RAM speed recorded was higher than the CPU supported speed.
There is no menu for RAM in the BIOS... anyway I never touched this setting, so I suppose it's not the problem as it worked well for 2 years...

    6) Check the status of Micro SD/M2 as it was reported as RAW
    7) Check the status of G: as it was reported as having drive corruption
Both these should be related to a try I did with a USB to M2 unit that I connected to Surface, but the M2 was not usable...
Anyway I don't know why it is still present the G: info?
Actually in the Disk management I have only these:
Surface abruptly shuts down when screen off or sleep-disk.png
Surface abruptly shuts down when screen off or sleep Attached Files

    First scannow:

    Code:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

    Code:
Repairing file \??\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\\OneDrive.lnk from store

    Repairing file \??\C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\\mscormmc.dll from store

    Scanhealth:
    and
    Restorehealth:

    Code:
    Error: 605
The specified buffer contains ill-formed data.

    Second scannow:

    Code:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

The component store reported ill formed data.

During the troubleshooting files can be temporarily moved to another disk drive or the cloud to create free space.

Once you've freed up 30 GB it may be possible to perform an in place upgrade repair, and form and maintain BSOD memory dumps files.

Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB).

Create a bootable Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 10 iso).

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Uninstall any of these non-Microsoft software:
    a) antivirus
    b) firewall
    c) drive encryption

Place the computer into clean boot:

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

Perform an in place upgrade repair while in clean boot:
Please decrypt before the in place upgrade repair.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...-upgrading-faq

After the in place upgrade repair:

    a) run the tuneup plus script and post a new share link into the newest post

    b) read this link on Windows Driver Verifier (WDV): (please do not use the tool until it is communicated in this thread)

    I've reached 31GB

But I'm trying to gain more space:

    1) WinSxS says this:
Surface abruptly shuts down when screen off or sleep-winsxs__noclenup_1_60-1_05____.png
Why does it say recommended: no, if Backup 1.60GB + Cache 1.05GB ?

    2) I was trying to delete Edge Folder (1,6GB) after I read to enter with admin cmd:
    "setup --uninstall --force-uninstall --system-level"
    but id does nothing...

    3) C --> Program Data -> Package Cache 7.4GB
from what I read, they are needed to correctly uninstall Visual Studio Code.
But I've read I could delete and re-run the installer and it will put files back...
So, do you think is safe to delete this folder?
I've read also to move the folder + link junction, but it seems it cheats file explorer on filesize as the files should still on C even if they aren't, mmm...

So, my next steps, should be:
    1) make a restore point
    2) "Please decrypt before the in place upgrade repair."
Should I suspend? I don't see that option:
Surface abruptly shuts down when screen off or sleep-bitlocker.png
Or should I entirely decrypt pressing the button "Turn off"?
    3) clean boot + in place upgrade repair from USB W10 ISO
    4) clean temporary files + turn on bitlocker

There were threads in which there were unexpected encrypting/decrypting problems so if possible please decrypt.

Then perform an in place upgrade repair while in clean boot.

Then run the tuneup plus script and post a share link into this thread.

When reading the WDV link please learn the methods to recover from using the tool by booting into safe mode and running one or more of these commands:

    verifier /reset

    verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

Please do not use the tool until it is communicated into this thread.

The above comments are to get you started in the troubleshooting.

I did the in place upgrade repair.
    The problem is still there...
    I attach the tuneup file.

Could we proceed to create the BSOD memory dump? (I don't see any C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP ... maybe it isn't a BSOD but a shutdown? I can always repeat closing the lid=sleep and waiting 3 minutes=completely shutdown.)

First scannow after the in place upgrade repair:

    Code:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
    Code:
    Repairing file \??\C:\WINDOWS\System32\en-US\\DafPrintProvider.dll.mui from store

    1) Post a new V2 share link.

    2) Make a new restore point

    3) Start Windows Driver Verifier (WDV) with the 3 customized tests settings in the Ten Forums link

    Test all non-Microsoft drivers.
    Test no Microsoft drivers.

Make sure that you understand how to recover from using the tool by booting into safe mode and running one or more of these commands:

    verifier /reset

    verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

Plan to run WDV in the background for 48 hours and an additional 24 hours after the last BSOD.

If there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    verifier /querysettings

Post a share link into this thread.

For any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

"Plan to run WDV in the background for 48 hours and an additional 24 hours after the last BSOD."

Do you mean I must not shut down the pc neither on night, so I must left it on doing nothing at night and using it normally on day, for 48hours continuously?
    EDIT
And should I not provoke the abnormal shutdown in this period? i.e. be careful not leaving Surface into sleep mode?

The disk drive has insufficient free space.

During the troubleshooting please make sure that there is at least 30 GB free space.

While using WDV if there are misbehaving drivers there should be unexpected shutdowns.

WDV will stress test drivers and there may be performance problems as there is more CPU activity.

Other performance problems may include very slow boot.

Run WDV continuously for 48 hours so that there is a lot of time to find misbehaving drivers.
Then when WDV is turned off there should be more confidence that there was sufficient time to find misbehaving drivers.
If there are continued unexpected shutdowns and restarts after ruling out misbehaving drivers then test hardware components.

Modifying hibernation and sleep have not been necessary as long as there is sufficient day use.
