Dell XPS 17 freezing randomly, fairly new clean install

I recently did a fresh clean install from USB and have everything set and reinstalled all the programs

I had to use the power button as its totally unresponsive, the 2nd and most recent time it happened was while i was in nvidia control panel, i selected use the advanced 3d option which is the 2nd selection, i had not yet applied the changes and then it said not responding, eventually it stopped saying not responding and the entire machine froze with no response from keyboard or mouse

The GPU driver is the latest and directly from Nvidia, i have the latest bios, windows patches and latest drivers

I was going to get a log using log collector V2 but windows said gave me this error PUA:Win32/Puamson.A!ml

I would rather not do a new reset as i spent a few hrs getting everything set

What is exact XPS model number?

We find on the Dell support forums that using the Dell supplied drivers usually work better.

There is (or was) Dell hardware diagnostics on the system drive, accessed by F12. Run them to see if anything shows up.

    XPS 9710
Its weird though when i played the games it never froze even at max settings

I did do the f12 scan and there were no issues

Before i did the clean install i had used the same drivers directly from nvidia and never had any freezing

With an 11th gen CPU this is a relatively new model. Still under warranty?

Usually on systems with dual video, as this system, the Intel CPU Video is used for everything except games. Does everything except games work OK?

I assume everything worked OK before the reinstall, which brings up another point. The Dell recovery should have been used to reinstall.

Also, apparently no full disc image backup so you could have recovered.

Restore your Laptop from the Recovery partition, or use the USB recovery drive you make early on, or the Dell equivalent.

Then use the Dell system application for drivers/updates or Windows updates.

Laptops have specialised hardware and drivers, you can go to Dell support and enter your Service Tag and get your drivers. This is a more complex approach, maybe easier for you to just start again.

It is not about latest drivers, it is about compatible drivers for your Dell Laptop hardware.

It is not the same hardware as in a Desktop machine which have more standardised/modular system components.

Hello, Dell tends to use Dell specific versions of drivers, GPU especially. Use the Dell site to download them. I had a Dell laptop, clean installs weren't easy. I had to reinstall firmware and all sorts, even though it said everything was there and up to date.
