PC has random freezes with DPC_WATCHDOG VIOLATION

I have had some problems with freezing PC and sometimes getting BSOD from it which says DPC_WATCHDOG VIOLATION.
I have tried to update my drivers and reset the PC to factory settings but it still continues to happen and I really don't know what to do. My PC also was in PC doctor but they did not find anything.
I have used WhoCrashed to find some information about the crashes so here is what it says.

On Fri 19.11.2021 9.11.29 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\111921-16515-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: intelppm.sys (intelppm+0x138f)
    Bugcheck code: 0x133 (0x1, 0x1E00, 0xFFFFF807378FB320, 0x0)
    Error: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
    file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\intelppm.sys
    product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: Processor Device Driver
Bug check description: The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This could be caused by either a non-responding driver or non-responding hardware. This bug check can also occur because of overheated CPUs (thermal issue).
The crash took place in a Microsoft module. The description of the module may give a hint about a non responding device in the system.

On Fri 19.11.2021 9.11.29 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: acpi.sys (acpi+0x2644b)

The intelppm.sys reason comes every time but the acpi.sys is a new one.
That last reason is usually different everytime but I can send some DMP. files from my PC also.

You and I Are In the Same Boat

    Ruutis,

I am experiencing the same issue you are with the same drivers you are. At first, WinDbg noted the ACPI.sys for me. It wasn't until I used BlueScreenView and WhoCrashed that I saw it involved the Intel driver as well. I have been trying to tackle this for the last few weeks now.

In May, my organization bought around 80 Lenovo ThinkCentre M80Q machines. Due to worldwide issues, we didn't get them in until sometime in September or October. I deployed them all, with the same SCCM image, same processes, and 23 of them are doing this every night at 12:03 am. It happens whether someone is logged in or not and persists even if the machine is rebuilt. The same machines experience the same nightly BSOD.

To date I have tried the following:
    • Changed our automatic power on in the UEFI BIOS to different times, believing that maybe it was because of the auto-on setting that was doing it (as it was set to 12:00am). Tried 6am, 2:30am, and the entire auto-on being disabled.
    • Downloaded and installed a new AHCI driver.
    • Set the IntelPPM = 4. I don't remember what this entailed, exactly, but it was something I found related to the intelppm.sys driver.
    • Changed the CPU drivers of one machine to use the Microsoft generic drivers rather than the intelppm.sys one.
    • Tried updating the Intel firmware directly from Intel's site.
    • Lenovo listed a new RST driver in the last month for this model so I tried that, throwing whatever I could think of to get some sort of lead on this issue.
    • Lenovo listed, for some reason, a dock driver for this model of ThinkCentre, so I tried that, because why not?
    • Windows Updates are normally blocked from pushing updates to machines, relying on SCCM/MEMC for updates. Temporarily, I enabled the Windows Updates from Microsoft, once more, and tried to update the drivers listed there. Some of these drivers mentioned Intel so I was hopeful.
    • Our ThinkCentre M80Q machines replaced some ThinkCentre M900 and M910Q machines. These machines are tiny form factors that can be inserted into a Tiny-In-One monitor. Tried pulling one of the machines out of the monitor (TIO24D is the model).

I work at a public university and right now it's end-of-semester mode, meaning our building and public computers are available 24/7 until after finals (next Friday, 12/10). Last night, before leaving for the day, I logged into one of the trouble machines and just stayed logged in with a wake-lock from ScreenConnect. This morning, the machine was sitting at a logon screen as it had crashed in the night. So this has the potential to cause trouble for our students. I have yet to contact Lenovo but that's my next stop after this reply.

I'm curious what make and model your machine is, Ruutis. I am leaning toward a hardware issue as this will persist through rebuilds. I can provide up to 5-DMP files for each of the 23-machines. Here is one of the machines in question:

    MODEL: 11DQS1U100 (ThinkCentre M80Q)
    OS BUILD: 19042 (Windows 10, 20H2)
    BUILD DATE: 11/19/2021 15:44:17
    SMBIOSBIOS: M2WKT4FA
    BIOS VERSION: LENOVO - 14F0
    BITLOCKER: On
    ENCRYPTION %: 100%

I tried to attach the DMP files but it seems those are not allowed as attachments. Can provide them on-demand.

I know the reason my PC is crashing

My PC Is Lenovo Legion T5 and the problem is with the Nvidia audio drivers.
People are saying that Lenovo is trying to solve this issue but nothing has been done in weeks..
One fix at the moment is to download the GPU driver from Lenovo's own website.
This fix is not good for people who play new games because new games need the latest GPU Drivers and the one Lenovo is giving us is from 2020.

But I hope this solves your problem for now.

Here is the link for the driver update which will work fine if you have some kind of the same Lenovo PCs. https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/d...o38us14wis.exe

Also here are a couple of links to threads where people have the same issue.

I'm glad you were able to find the reason for your crashes. Unfortunately, the ThinkCentre M80Q machines having this issue are not running NVIDIA hardware, rather Intel graphics, and thus cannot be fixed using the provided EXE from that long Lenovo post. Still poking around! Thanks for the update.
