    Computer restarting unexpectedly. Possible BSOD.

    Winver 21H1 19043.985

Hello. My computer that houses all my servers seems to be restarting on its own every couple days. Event logs show an unexpected shutdown. I cannot tell if this is a BSOD or something else. I have automatic Windows updates forcefully disabled so that Windows updates wouldn't auto reboot and I perform those manually. I check this computer remotely once or twice a week or when I notice my servers are down so it is hard for me to watch this computer all the time. I have attached the log collector. I have not witnessed an actual BSOD and there seems to be no BSOD dumps. The computer is connected to a battery backup. Thank you for looking into this.

Can you explain why it is not considered a BSOD? Was there something in the logs that you saw that identifies the problem as something else?

Computer's that have BSOD may display error messages indicating that they failed to create dump files.

This computer had reported failure to create the dump files.

One option is to troubleshoot the failure by running this script:

Tuneup_plus_log.bat Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

I ran the tuneup bat file and I was prompted to restart the computer to fix some errors. I restarted. Unfortunately this computer is remote and no monitor is hooked up to it so I was unable to see anything before the OS loaded in. How should I proceed?

The prompt to restart was likely related to: chkdsk /scan
It can find problems with the drive file system that can be fixed offline with chkdsk /spotfix.

    Search for:
    C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp\Tuneup.log
    C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp\T.txt

(change %Username% to the applicable user name as needed)

Post share links using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

The best option is to run this command overnight: chkdsk /r /v

The command can be run from:
    a) administrative command prompt
    b) command prompt at boot
    c) safe mode
    d) windows recovery environment (RE)
    etc.

    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19042.1165]
    (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /r /v
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type: Y

These are some links / tutorials to run the command and read results:

Please see tuneup.log as requested. I also performed chkdsk /r /v and rebooted. My computer still did reboot again unexpectedly last night at around 3:30am CST without warning. Please let me know the next steps you would like me to take.

For any BSOD or unexpected shutdown and restart post a new V2.

Search for C:\windows\LiveKernelReports\USBHUB3\USBHUB3-20200820-1717.dmp and post a share link into this thread.

    Code:
    8/20/2020 5:17:10 PM 0.25 C:\windows\LiveKernelReports\USBHUB3\USBHUB3-20200820-1717.dmp

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    reagentc /info

When available post chkdsk /r /v for each drive:
The command may take substantial time so run overnight.

    Code:
    ------------------------
    Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    ------------------------
          Drive: C:
     Free Space: 325.9 GB
    Total Space: 487.3 GB
    File System: NTFS
          Model: KINGSTON OM8PCP3512F-A02

          Drive: D:
     Free Space: 3748.5 GB
    Total Space: 9537.5 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: ASMT ASM1352R-Safe SCSI Disk Device

          Drive: E:
     Free Space: 2557.8 GB
    Total Space: 3815.4 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: JMicron Generic SCSI Disk Device

          Drive: R:
     Free Space: 2.0 GB
    Total Space: 2.0 GB
    File System: NTFS
          Model: n/a
