Constant Blue screens lately, when used and when idle

    Hi everyone,

    Windows 10 version: 20H2
    OS build: 19042.928

Lately I'm getting blue screens when using the computer but and also when it is on idle. This morning, I logged in and wasn't using my computer for about 5 minutes and it blue screened. It did this twice until I decided to troubleshoot. Other than that it's pretty much random. My system has become unstable since about April 25th.

When I got my first bsod while using it, I looked up the event viewer and noticed that since a year (around when I got the computer), I was getting them often at a time when I would be shutting down my computer for the night so I never noticed them.

I've run sfc /scannow and the errors found were corrected. I've also run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and that completed successfully. I also ran chkdsk /scan just in case.

I reset my CMOS, and overclocking and XMP are turned off.

I've also installed newer versions of my drivers.

My next step is to do a repair of Windows but I figured I would check with you first.

Since my post, I've had one bsod. I was doing a 10 pass stress test on using PC-Doctor and was performing these tests on the GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard and HDD/SSD. It was at pass 8 after a couple of hours with no issues till that point. I switched my display to another input and at that moment, my PC bsod'ed. I do not believe this to be coincidence...

So I uninstall iCue since it was causing errors on every startup. The corsair.service service would fail so now it's gone.

Now I'm trying to find a fix for the following error that is also happening on every startup. I've googled that error but haven't found anything useful for now.

Just figured out the Service Control manager on boot up error. It was the Intel ProSet Wifi driver/software that I had installed while trying to update my drivers. I uninstalled it and the error on boot up is gone.

Hopefully the dumps will tell more

Hello Runner and welcome to TenForums

The pattern of crashes is summarised below from the Power report:
Constant Blue screens lately, when used and when idle-image.png

Each bugcheck is the same and is a hardware error:

Constant Blue screens lately, when used and when idle-image.png

This is quite a rare one but I have seen an increased number of these in recent weeks. I am not sure what is causing it but I would certainly recommend making Microsoft aware of it via Feedback Hub.

You could try different power plans to see if they make any difference. You are currently using a high performance power plan and I would try the balanced one.

Thanks philc43! I will try a balanced power setting and will send a bug report to Microsoft.

One note I didn't add is that the hybrid shutdowns that were causing bsods where happening with fast boot being ON and since turning off the feature, those do not happen anymore.

Just got two bsods this morning after 20 minutes and 13 minutes of being logged in. On the first I was just looking at your response and the second I was changing my power plan. The error that came up was that it wasn't able to write the dump. Do you think this could be my M2 SSD that is causing this? When I get a bsod, it's so fast that I can't see what it says on screen before it shuts down.

I will try using a new user profile just in case.

General details: Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation.

I'm also wondering if this could be the same as what we had experienced at work with Win10 1803. Surface Pro tablets with Intel SSD's would bsod often after a while. I found that a kb had been released by Microsoft to resolve this issue which caused Intel SSD's to stop working. Once this was deployed to the tablets, they were stable again.

The symptoms are the same and I'm seeing about 8 people with the same computer that I have that are experiencing the same issues starting in November but most being posted in April and some on the same day that I started getting them on the Corsair forums.

This is the Microsoft kb if some are interested: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...2-9684ab8cb2c6

OK, If you want to see what was on the BSOD screen you should turn off automatic restart in the settings for System start-up and recovery. Find this by right clicking on Start menu and selecting System. Scroll down to Advanced System settings and select this.

See how it goes for a day or so and then post a new set of log files.

Crap, I surprisingly did not get blue screens for the last two days but this morning I've already had 3. Two in my new profile and one in my previous profile (my third was writting this post). Seeing as how the new profile is getting bsods I figured I would go back to my main profile.

The blue screen stop code was: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
The blue screen stayed at 0% for two minutes so I shut down my pc. I'm still not sure why it can't dump it though.

I've tried to disable ASPM in my bios but I can't quite find the setting there. Maybe it's named differently.

I've also tried to set my fans to auto instead of PWM but I seem to only have a choice of PWM or DC. I turned off the smart fan control mode in the hope that this is the same as setting them fans to Auto.

First time I have an MSI motherboard so I am new with their bios style.

    Update:

I had 5 bsods yesterday so I decided to run a repair on Windows last night but kept profile and apps at this point. Next step would be to no keep anything if issue persists. Monitoring.

    - - - Updated - - -

Update: 3 more bsods just now. Was fine yesterday after the repair. Now had to use a restore point since Windows would not boot anymore. Likely since it bsod while an update was being worked on.

Installed the two updates fine after. Monitoring.

These crashes are not creating crash dump files. As far as I can tell they are all Hardware errors.

Constant Blue screens lately, when used and when idle-image.png

    All bugcheck report as:

Constant Blue screens lately, when used and when idle-image.png

These are appearing more frequently in recent weeks on a number of systems.

I would check for any firmware updates on your SSD as a starting point and also check for any new BIOS updates.
