Linux
You hold interesting hours, good sir, do you sleep?
There's an idea - hadn't considered using linux as a way to check hardware stability in this case! I am intrigued.
I use Lubuntu on some old machines to extend their usable life. I'll look into LinuxLite, maybe that's got something to offer Lubuntu doesn't.
I'm not very good with linux CLI sudo apt-get install something something.... I always have to google commands and syntax, and never had the drive to compile a tarball or whatever, lol, my geek brain starts to overheat. Looks like Linux Lite has a gui, so I appreciate that.
I have my 1TB data drives disconnected at this point, so I'm just working with the C drive and the DVD drive. I am considering removing the Firewire PCI card and DVD drive to get down to the most barebones hardware configuration I can work with.
I'm reluctant to mess with the boot sector and partitioning on my system SSD. I've made mistakes with that sort of thing in the past gone down some unpleasant rabbit holes, but maybe it's time I get over that fear. I could put an alternate drive in, but I think I need to test the drive itself and the sata cable and bus to make it a worthwhile experiment.
I'll be afk for a few days, but this is apparently a long term, slow burning kind of project, so I'll get back to it when I return.
Thanks again for the help, and I hope you enjoy your weekend.
