PC randomly reboots for no reason

    Hello,

my PC randomly reboots for no apparent reason for a few days now. It doesn't freeze, it doesn't say "Rebooting Windows" or whatever, it just goes straight to black and then I see the BIOS message and it starts just like nothing happened.

I'm running Windows 10, Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.844). I ran the V2 log collector 1.11, the date is attached to this post.

I would appreciate some guidance on how to identify and fix the problem. Thanks!

    Hello MediumPotato

Looking at your logs I can see a number of fatal hardware errors reported. These probably coincide with your black screen crashes.

    Code:

It looks as if the CPU is reporting a BUS error. I would check your device manager for any warnings (yellow exclamation marks) for any devices that need drivers.

Three devices are showing as needing drivers:

These are AMD chipset drivers which should be available from your Motherboard website for the Starship/Matisse CPU

    Hello philc43,

thank you very much for your support.

I've downloaded and installed the AMD chipset driver ver:2.04.09.131 and all three devices with exclaimation marks ('PCI Device', 'PCI Device' and 'PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller') went away (or probably got renamed and reshuffled somewhere else. I am now monitoring the situation and will get back to you if another crash should occur again.

I've just had another crash. I attached the latest V2 log.

There are no bluescreen of death crashes logged in the latest files you uploaded.

I do see evidence of app crashes e.g.overwolfupdater. There is definitely a problem with this program. It might be causing the crashes.

same here, last week PC used to reboot random, whether watching youtube, or a game, or simply doing nothing.
the interesting thing is that my brother laptop experienced the same haha, from what i know all this started after updating nvidia gpu driver as i got notification from geforce experience even tho not long a go they gave a new driver so i awlays follow their latest upates, so most likely is nvidia causing this as usualy they do.
or windows 10 itself since last year has been buggy as hell.

so, what i did, is i uninstalled gpu drivers in safe mode with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and then restarted PC in normal mode, and let the windows update install drivers itself, no more nvidia geforce. also getting latest windows update if there is any might help. its been 2 days i think no more Pc restarts. im assuming its fixed.

Update: I've just had a new unwanted reboot. I've completely deinstalled Overwolf now and hope that it helps stop those crashes.

Did you see any bluescreen before the reboot? I am not sure if this was a BSOD or something else.

I do see these entries in your logs:

    Code:

I am beginning to suspect you may have a hardware error.

Hello philc43, I didn't see any bluescreen, no. The screen goes blank and the PC reboots.

Well, that doesn't sound good at all. A hardware problem doesn't seem to be easily fixable.

I'm running Prime95 with its 'Blend' pre-set for almost 30 minutes right now, no new crash just yet. Temperature fluctuates between 65 and 90 °C/194 °F at 142.1 W max. CPU power consumption. I'll keep it running for 2,5 more hours, like it says in the forum thread.

    - - - Updated - - -

Prime95 has run in 'Blend' mode for 3 hours now. The system didn't crash.

The result is good and provides a good test of your system under stress.

The errors I highlighted earlier created a LiveKernel dump.

If you can copy the file below I might be able to check the details although I am not very hopeful that it will reveal much more:

    C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WHEA\WHEA-20210308-1332.dmp

Copy the file to another folder like your Downloads or Documents folder and then add to a zip file for uploading in your next post.

Hey philc43, thank you for your continuing support.

I've attached the requested file and hope that it helps find the cause of those crashes.
