    Stopcode 'Bad System Config Info'

I upgraded my x64 bit desktop from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro in Dec 2019 (16GB RAM/240GB HD), and the system has been fine until today.

After starting the PC, it first displayed a blue screen with a Windows Stopcode message ('Bad System Config Info'). It also mentioned SrtTrail.txt

Several attempts to restart from the blue screen Windows options have failed and it would also not restart in Win 10 Safe Mode. There appeared to be no restore point available. I have not encountered this problem before.

It now will not boot at all, repeatedly attempting to read a drive (DVD ?).

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello @Dave xxx,

That normally informs you about a Failed Automatic System Repair and allows you to choose between two options: Advanced Repair and System Shut Down. The Advanced Repair should help to reach the Safe Mode in order to fix the issue. Did you get this?

Is there ANYTHING in the DVD Drive?
If there is, it might be trying to Boot from it.

    I hope this helps.

    Paul - Many thanks ...

"The Advanced Repair should help to reach the Safe Mode in order to fix the issue. Did you get this?"

From memory, yes, but Safe Mode would not launch.

"Is there ANYTHING in the DVD Drive?"

    No.

    No.
    You are VERY welcome.

[1] I forgot to ask, were there ANY USB's or External Disks attached?
[2] Was there an External Disk attached and then you removed it?

Sometimes a USB memory stick with Win 10 Pro ISO - seems to make no difference.

"[2] Was there an External Disk attached and then you removed it?"

    No

    Hello @Dave xxx,

[1] The error you are experiencing is usually caused by a faulty system configuration. Please try and run Option 1 here . . .

    > To Run SFC /SCANNOW Command at Boot

[2] If you have difficulty booting into Command Prompt, look at this . . .

    > How to Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

[3] Are you able to Boot into the ISO?

    I hope this helps.

The suggestions are useful, but at the moment I cannot boot/start the PC.

The BIOS startup was changed a few attempts ago, and I'm wondering if I need either a Win 10 Pro boot CD/DVD or a means of changing the BIOS startup.

[1] Can you please elaborate on this!
[2] Have you got a System Image prior to this Failure?

"[1] Can you please elaborate on this!"

One of the Win 10 Diagnostic options led to the BIOS opening page/screen, and I reset (rather than restored) the BIOS settings, and I suspect that the startup process is now looking to boot from a CD/DVD, which I haven't got (but I do have an ISO version of Win 10 on a USB memory stick vintage ca Dec 2019).

[1] When you Boot the Desktop, are you saying that if you press F2, F10, F12, or whatever the Key Combination is to enter your BIOS or Boot Menu, that it does NOT work?

[2] The OS will go through the Boot process in the order listed in the BIOS. If the first one is NOT available, it moves on to the second one etc.

[3] Have you tried re-setting the BIOS by removing and replacing the CMOS battery?

See Method 2 here => How to Reset Your BIOS

    I hope this helps.
