When waking up from sleep, BSOD (Critical Process Died) or no video
I have an issue with my PC where I'll either get a BSOD (with Critical Process Died error) or a black screen (no video).
Here's how I can describe the issue best:
- My PC is a custom build and was completed last week.
- Windows 10 is a clean install.
- Windows version number is 20H2 (OS Build 19042.746).
- The issue happens each time I wake up the computer, but it does not happen as soon as it goes to sleep. While troubleshooting the issue, I was not able to replicate it by waking up the computer as soon as it went to sleep, I have to wait a bit for it to manifest (PSU sleep state related?).
- Even if I get no video, my monitor will open.
- At first, my computer would boot back straight to BIOS. I have unchecked the option for Windows to restart automatically and now it does not restart.
- I have a PCIe Gen 4 motherboard and GPU, but a Gen 3 riser cable. I built in a SFF case, so the riser cable is a must. When building the computer, I had to first build outside the case to plug the GPU in the motherboard directly and change the PCIe settings from Auto to Gen 3. I don't know if it could be related?
- As far as I know, I'm not seeing anything suspicious in Event Viewer after rebooting.
- To reboot the computer, I must force reboot, but I do now have to hold the power button for 4 seconds, it reboots as soon as I press it.
I have tried the following to try to fix the issue, nothing worked:
- Updated all drivers
- Disabled hibernate
- Disabled Fast Startup
- Ran System File Checker
- Created a new user to test if the problem persisted
And the requested logs:
