BSOD Page fault when updating to 20H2 or monthly nov update

    Hi Gang,

Have had issue of a BSOD on restart doing update to 20H2, or the nov monthly update.

The update will install, prompt me to restart, go through the blue screen of installing the update, then restart.

On this restart I get a page fault in non paged area. It will restart again, fail, then restart to automatic repair as it should, then diagnose pc, it then switched back tot eh blue screen where it says cannot install updates and rolls back, then puts me back to my desktop.

I had swapped my RAM sticks, and removed my CH products USB sticks throttle and rudder, making sure those might not be the culprit.

Windows Version 2004 Pro OS Build 19041.450

I'm hoping to get some direction in which to go, thanks beforehand!

Looks like you lost RAM stability! This can mean a bad RAM slot, a bad DIMM trace on the motherboard or a bad RAM controller on the CPU.

It is usually suggested that you reseat the RAM and do a clean install.

Can you please back up this claim with evidence from the log?

I have to disagree unless you can provide it, I've ran mem test 86 overnight with no issues I've used the windows memory diagnostic in extended mode with cache running several passes of the RAM as well with no issues found, I do not have any other problems with the computer at all, lastly if one could say it might be my board, I had replaced my RAM with my old RAM which I never had an issue with, both being Corsair dominator, and it still BSOD on me on the first restart after 30-35% of applying the update.

So far I think I'm lucky because it does undo the changes and rolls back to my desktop. But being that I've run stress tests on my RAM, and I've also tried running the update with the RAM settings and BIOS on automatic, versus the XMP profile drawn from the RAM itself and that makes no difference, I've also tried underclocking the RAM and trying it on both sets and it still does it.

This really leads to me to think that it's the update itself, unless someone else can take a look at the logs, which is why I posted it here and tell me what the logs are saying.

I have looked at your crash dumps and the problem lies with the Intel driver TeeDriverW8x64.sys which is from the Intel Management Engine Interface so do as MrPepka has stated.

Please also note that it appears that your Adobe Acrobat Pro software is unlicensed. Please correct this in order to receive any further help.

I will check that out I appreciate the confirmation of it being the Intel Management engine, as far as Adobe Acrobat I thought that it uninstalled that I shall do so if I need more assistance as I'm not using it presently.

    well,damn... 20h2 just doesn't like me

i got fed up and decided to do a fresh install, so i got the media creation tool and made a new usb stick, then installed, wiping my original partitions on my boot drive after grabbing data i wanted.

it went through the motions and i got to my new bare desktop, then after a few minutes, i got another page fault, and it wouldn't boot giving page faults again!

so now im DLing and making a 20h1 iso to install hoping i can recover my PC.

    Grrrrrr ....

Just wanted to add to this, I also have a 4790k and I was trying to downgrade the IME driver to the latest version provided by the MB manufacturer (EVGA) which is dated 2015 - BSOD in 2004. Newer version of IME doesn't support the processor.
Before I read your latest response I also tried to build a 20H2 install and it BSOD during the first login and configuration step, I assume it detected the ME and tried to install... something.
Are we maybe missing a microcode update? It hasn't affected any other Haswell device I have.

Well after doing everything I could of course I decided to get on the EVGA forum for my Z97 Classified board. A couple other members answered and it is intel engine management, it's probably that we're missing an update because you can't really go with the ones that Intel drops You have to get one from your manufacturer.

However that said I had thought uninstalling the management from the control panel would do it but apparently it doesn't it leaves a device in system devices in the device manager list.

One of the other members had said to disable that, it's not necessarily needed, and then the system should be able to perform those updates, and low and behold it worked!

I'm on 20H2, and it also installed the 2020-11 cumulative update before that.

So basically knowing that I had wiped my drive, I'm left with this:

I have a nice fresh install of Windows on a fresh partitioned boot drive, the may update which was updated to the October feature update.
My boot drive is now a GPT and I'm booting in UEFI mode on my board, now that those two things are enabled I actually can reboot and leave fast startup on, and my system has never gotten to the desktop quicker.

Since I was using Windows live Mail still on that computer and grabbing mail pop to get it off the server I did lose what one could call my archives, but to be straight up I've always been using my mail on my phone more than anything else in the past year or so and I've almost never went into that archive, so I haven't even bothered yet to install Windows live Mail and put my accounts on there, I have my phone, and I have webmail for both accounts that I use the most and I might just leave it at that.

I completed the process of installing the Z97 chipset, and I installed the 9 series drive controller, and had to go wandering to find the marvel controller for the other sata ports on the board, and now I just have to do some other software installs for whatever I happen to decide I need, my actual data is on another drive where I store a lot of my stuff just for this type of incident. 😁

If I was really concerned about having my mail and everything else working I could go back to a macrium reflect image, but that was taken awhile ago I had not really made an update to that in about 4 months, but that would have been an option once I knew what was going on with the updates in the first place.

So all in all right now I'm quite happy in the spot that I'm at as far as my main PC goes!

I appreciate everybody's help, I'll leave the thread open for a little bit in case anyone else wants to comment, but I consider it solved right now.
