Computer Freeze during gameplay, not during stress tests

    Hello,

My computer randomly freezes during gameplay but not during stress tests. I don't get a BSOD, it just freezes & then restarts. If I disable automatic restart it just hangs forever. I've tried to find the issue myself unsuccesfully by:

    1. Running stress tests

GPU: Running Furmark for 2 hours with a load of 98% with no freeze. Running 3DMark Timespy multiple times without issue

CPU: Prime95 stress test without issues

RAM: Windows memory diagnostic for 8hours+

SSDs (have 3): chkdsk /f /r and scannow without issues.

    2. Reinstalled PC & Updated drivers

    3. PC is now connected directly to the power outlet instead of the power extension

    4. Checking logs
Can only see Kernel-Power 41 issue in event viewer & volmgr 161 (failure to create dump file). So I don't get any dump files except for LiveKernelReports which report that the nvlddmkm.sys caused the issue with VIDEO_ENGINE _TIMEOUT_DETECTED.

I've attached the files from log collector v2, what do you think it could be?

The computer was put togheter last year so all the parts are new except the PSU. System specs are updated on my profile.

According to Samsung Magician, you now have the DXM04B0Q firmware, and on the Samsung website you have the DXM06B0Q firmware, i.e. the one on the Samsung website is clearly newer

Ow sorry, the IDs were so similar and Samsung magician said I had the newest one. Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm trying to reach Samsung support on why I can't get the new firmware in Samsung Magician.
The only other option seems to be a bootable CD/DVD and I don't have a CD/DVD reader.

Wait for Samsung to respond. Don't try to force an update.

This thread should be moved to another forum. As it says at the top of the forum and of your thread:

Please do not post anything other than Windows 10 Blue Screen Of Death problems in this section.

Contacted Samsung support, they basically said: to bad.

Thank you for your contacting Samsung memory Support. Please be informed that not all firmware version of older SSD models are available on the latest version of Samsung Magician.
In order to update the firmware of your 840 PRO, you will need to download and use the ISO version on the website.
We are not sure why the firmware update is not available in Samsung Magician, it is possible that it still has to be added to it, but for now, the ISO file is the only way available to update your 840 Pro, unfortunately.
I'm not sure that this is a SSD issue though. The games I'm running are not even installed on that SSD, they are installed on the 500 GB SSD.

Hey c0rn. Is this with all games or just one or a few? While I don't know for certain if this is just an effect or a direct cause, I think the VIDEO_ENGINE _TIMEOUT_DETECTED caused by a TDR from nvlddmkm.sys (nvidia) should at least be investigated. Troubleshooting this is always hard though. Here are the most common reasons:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...meout-detected
    • You may need to install the latest updates for your display driver, so that it properly supports the TDR process.
    • Hardware issues that impact the ability of the video card to operate properly, including:
*Over-clocked components, such as the motherboard
*Incorrect component compatibility and settings (especially memory configuration and timings)
      *Insufficient system cooling
      *Insufficient system power
*Defective parts (memory modules, motherboards, etc.)
    • Visual effects, or too many programs running in the background may be slowing your PC down so that the video card can not respond as necessary.

Games are always better of testing system stability than benchmarks and stress tests because it's more uneven and variable. I think it's clear that it's not overheating or insufficient power (total) since that would easily be picked up when doing stress tests though. While we can't rule out hardware as an issue, you can try some of these suggestions:

    1) Disable the GPU factory overclock by the manufacturer (if applicable) in the Nvidia Control panel. Debug Mode enabled under ' help'.
    2) Turn off XMP - or manual overclocks/timings - for testing in the BIOS
    3) Turn off overlays (statistics, monitoring, geforce experience)
    4) Exit any running applications in the background
    5) Update the board BIOS
    6) Run memtest64
    7) Run the GPU directly in the first x16 PCIe slot. Remove any 'risers' for testing.
